I chained multiple times when I worked up there, most areas where these wells are at don’t get plowed. I’m from Florida, born and raised, I figured it out. I told the boss I didn’t know how to put them on, he said when you need them you’ll figure it out, and I did. There’s really nothing to it.

Chaining is only an issue the first few times you do it or if you are 350 lbs.

I can chain a twin screw and a drag in less than 15 minutes. Off in 5. V bars and lockers make you unstoppable on tarmac. Offroad it just depends if you sink or not. East coast you can bury a truck offroad. Out west the ground drains better and usually off road isn't quite as bad. I've seen trucks up to the mirrors in Georgia red clay.

Chaining isn't the end of the world like most drivers make it out to be. The real issue is the white volvo crowd that jam up the passes or wipe out and take 50 cars out. Ice on fast flat roads is way more scary than snow in mountains.

After being born and raised in western PA, and living in central ND for a year, I'd absolutely prefer driving in ND. The roads around PA and WV are mostly old, somewhat reconstructed state routes or local roads that are poorly maintained. In ND, winter was pretty much cold season-long. In PA, it could be 0 degrees one day with dumping snow, then 50 the next two days melting everything, then 5 degrees the following day freezing everything. Road crews sometimes just can't keep up with things. Not to mention, some of these hills on state highways can bring you from 60 to 10 mph in about 5 seconds...It's a different experience if you're not used to it.
