It does happen but it is a convoluted trail to follow. I've looked into it and there are all sorts of avenues. Some money has come through the DOT in the form of grants. Some from other government agencies in the form of subsidies for the training of displaced workers. Some has come from something like the Transportaiton Industry Assistance Act (not the acual name - but somethin' like that)
In other words it is not one agency that says "here's your money".... but more like several sources, in several different guises.
Usually the figure bounced around is more in the vicinity of $5k (at least that's the common figure that I've heard). However... if a big company hires 1,000 drivers per year and gets $5k per ------ that's $5 million per year added to their bottom line.
Don't for a muniute think that these big carriers are hiring newbies out of the goodness of their hearts. Especially in this economy when there are so many experienced hands out of work. There is deffinately something in it for them.
Adding to the pile of evidence is the tuition reimburssment thing. I'll tell you right now that if you apply to any of the other so-called training companies that offer it, that they will tell you that you are not eligible by having worked for Werner already.
Because from waht I can tell (from limited research), is that when you are a complete newbie the company can receive "tuition" money from the govenment on your behalf. So even when they reimburse you, they are still ahead financially. But, once you have worked for one company, you are no longer a complete rookie and no other company is eligible for the subsidy.
This is just what I've been able to put together. I'm sure somebody with time and better sources could do better.

That was an interesting first post! I read the whole thing and I don't blame you at all for doing what you did.
One thing that strikes me odd- why in hell did the dude wash his junk in the sink, when there was a shower or bathtub in the bathroom? -
Really though, I've been back in the industry long enough now that nothing surprises me as to the "quality" individuals that are out there. Disgusts me yes, surprises me - no.
For every one normal person there seems to be about ten dirty, smelly, urine/feces stained, nose picking, toothless, sweat pants wearing, torn t-shirt, "menatally challenged" f---tard steering wheel gropers.
but ..... I digress .......
...... back to our regular thread..

You hit the nail on the head! Kinda like the bar scene in Star Wars at any given truck stop on any given night....

Jimbo,
Good points! I've tried to put all those nasty, filthy people out of mind whenever I saw them. I saw one today as a matter of fact, but it wasn't a truck stop, it was the local gas station. Rock hauler, looked like he rolled around in the dirt for a month straight. Luckily I didn't have to stand behind him at the fuel desk! -

My guess would be stress. Nerves, lack of proper sleep, cafeine anything like that can cause a high reading.
Beyond that I don't know but, I would follow it up with my personal Doc. If I were you.
Your not the first one that the b/p thing has happened to.
.............. Jim59Panhead Thanks this. -
Great post!
I had a friend who went with Weiner right out of school. He lasted about 2 months with them. The funny thing was, he lives in northern Indiana, but his home terminal was Chattanooga TN. So when he came in for hometime, he landed in Chatt, and then had to take the 12 hr bus ride home, and back! -
Jimbo60 Thanks this.

yeah... those would be the guys in the old gym shorts, 2 sizes too small t-shirt and velcro sneakers. Usually found standing in line at the fuel desk with a 64 oz diet soda and a confused look, picking out belly button lint with their free hand.
...... I wonder if you have to placard if the driver is Hazmat?

ETA- we've gotten pretty far of topic here (I think?)....... which evidently was mostly my fault. So...... the topic at hand is Werner. ....... anybody?
