This habit started because idiots are teaching idiots to be truck drivers. It began slowly in the early 90's... when the likes of Schneider, JB and Weener were using drivers with 6 weeks of experience to train new drivers. Just like the old telephone game, it gets progressively worse.

So... when these former trainees begat their own idiots... who begat yet more idiots... and so on... and so on...

Finally, some of these idiots gave up the OTR life for the star-studded life of a CDL school trainer. PRESTO!!! One idiot can teach hundreds now.

Actually, all this unsafe driving habits were started by a guy in China, in 1672.

He invented the first car, and it's been all downhill ever since !!!!!!

Which just made my point from above. (Except there's a little more road time with this individual.) Next time you see some moron doing this, check the name on the side of the truck. I doubt it says Schneider, Swift, Werner or JB Hunt. It will most likely be some tiny company you've never heard of and will never see again.

And I reiterate: I went through Swift school in Portland, OR (It was PTDI accredited) before they shut it down to sell the property. We were expressly told to speed up as close to highway speed as we could and merge when it is safe to do so. Mr. Barcode, would you please give me the specific name of the school and instructor giving this direction? I would like to tell him or her in person what an idiotic idea that is.

I just recently finished driving school and took my cdl test and I guess I was fortunate. The school taught us how to safely pull over(as if to check for a problem)and how to resume safely by staying on shoulder until you were up to a speed to merge. The actual test for the DMV also had you do this and it could result in a failure if you turned your wheel left in the slightest if you were not up to speed.

You left your flashers on until you could signal you were going to merge left.

Don't "miss the days of respect and concern", reimplement it. Scold rude drivers and make them feel bad for their foolish actions. Call them out by name, etc. Embarrassing others in front of others is a powerful tool. Things will change for the better eventually. Of course, it will take ALOT of time and dedication.

I said this wrong..... you cancel your 4-ways and signal but move straight ahead and merge when safe to do so.

When I got pulled over for speeding last year, the patrolman that wrote my ticket informed me to watch for a break in traffic, then use the shoulder to accelerate to a speed which would allow me to safely pull back onto the highway when clear.

    johnday and LooneyTune Thank this.

Well yes I understand not using the shoulder lane as a travel lane. I just meant that if an officer did indeed try to give me a ticket for using that lane as a way to build up my speed to safely merge back onto the interstate I would be like knock yourself out and start writing
