I can't get a loan from my account because I don't have any credit or banking account I don't think, I never had a job.
My parents probably wouldn't be willing to pay for trucking school by getting loans from their bank account. Also the trucking school that I looked into costs 6k to attend which I think is too expensive.
I called CRST to ask if I went to their school and ended the 8 mo. contract how much I have to pay for their school and it was 4k. So I thought maybe I should go to CRST for their school and break the contract and go to Werner. But then I might as well stay for the 8 mo. contract before going to Werner because then I don't have to pay for the truck schooling. But I heard CRST is dangerous because they team you up with someone less experienced than you so that you go to sleep worrying about whether you'll be alive the next morning.
I heard that as long as you pass the CDL test without formal truck schooling you can get into Werner so that you need to make a friend who has a truck so that you can practice with that so you don't need to go to school... but how do I find such a friend. Will anyone living in Detroit area willing to let me use the truck for practice please?

You're asking a lot, not that it can't be done though. That's pretty much the way it used to be.
Just a thought. Try calling CFI/Conway. There was a time CFI would send you to Crowder college outside Joplin, I think that's the correct name. At any rate, they would expect you to pay $1000 up front. That was a while ago, but what the hay, give it a shot. IMO, that would be a good way to go. I just remembered all that.
Another thought. If I heard right, it may be that SNI [Schneider] may be doing something. They have a yard in Woodhaven.
Regardless, it'll only cost you a couple phone calls. If you do call either, please let us know what you find out.

Hey Lupe, your post is a little confusing. Sounds like you are in a panic! Central Ref, has a school. They will pay for you to get there also. Their pay is above average and their trucks are brand new. I worked for them and they are a pretty decent company. As far as getting your cdl without schooling, in order to drive someone else's truck for practice you are going to need to be insured and have a learners permit, or the owner of the truck will need to insure you. You might want to double check your facts, I have never heard of these companies taking drivers that haven't gone through some type of schooling.

Alright I'm gonna apply to Central Ref and see how that goes
edit: i remember i did apply there except the recruiter said "We need you to have at least 24 months of work history, if you don't have any work history in the past tow years then you don't qualified."
and then I asked (email) "Does attending University for 2 years qualify?" and he wouldn't reply.
edit: anyway I just called them again and somebody said they'll ask someone higher than him for a definite answer on whether 2 yr University works in lieu of 2 years employment history.Last edited: Sep 2, 2010

My husband is at school with Prime. He just has to drive with them for a year.

if you sign a CONTRACT with ANY COMPANY, and you break it.......you WILL BE responsible for the entire amount. THEN you will get a very bad credit report, that will stick with you for a long time.
try applying for credit then..........!!
DO NOT break any contracts..........!!!!!!!!!!

So you've made it to 21 without ever having a job? You could always start by getting a job and saving your pennies.
Better yet, find a small trucking outfit, ask if they need someone to grease and/or wash trucks. Thereby killing the proverbial two birds with one stone. (Getting a job and perhaps making a friend who owns a truck you could use to pass the CDL test) If you play your cards right, this could even lead up to your first trucking job. -
I called another recruiter and it turns out 2 years of University does count as 2 years of work, as long as you show them your transcripts.
So I could have started today at Central Ref (their school plus one year contract) but I got doubtful about whether my back could handle all that sitting and decided to try out seat cushion products before making my final decision. -
What do you mean if your back can handle all that sitting? When you were in school
were you standing? Do you think you can drive a truck standing up?
-
I had to chuckle about the seat cushion. Heaven knows I have plenty of that.
