Injun speaks spanish....thats great. Dont bother me....dont effect me....UNLESS you start talking to me in spanish, then i'll have a hard time following along. But i do notice you sure like to throw that title "independant contractor" around. Guess that is better than "lease/ops" calling themselves "Owner/Ops" when they really arent.
oh....and while i'm on the subject.
LEARN HOW TO DROP TRAILERS !!!! Please dont dolly down all the way to the ground and THEN drop your air-bags. I've almost taken my sleeper off because a trailer somehow gets jacked up 6" higher than my 5th wheel. I know different trucks have diff. ride heights, etc....but come on. =) -
Swift also offers a 5th Wheel Coupling Class at the kiosk as well as Swift University Online if you have forgotten by chance how to properly couple : - )Injun Thanks this. -

As for the original topic at hand, it does apply to everyone, it is called using common courtesy and common sense, things that unforunately anywhere you go these days not just the trucking business are too uncommon.
As for the driver who blocked you in, that attitude is about right for many of the hacks I run into today, they didnt do it, arent responsible, it was some one else.
I see it all the time right now running the wrecker doing impounds, I get every sob story you can immagine about how it wasnt someone's fault where they left thier car, and why they shouldnt have to pay for it.
2 nights ago I had a girl offer to sleep with me if id give her friends car back with out charging them, I respectfully declined and told them I do not do that sort of thing.
But this is a mentality a lot of people have today, and really we would all be a lot better off if folks could take a lot more responsibility for themselves.
This is why I dont like a lot of the "technology" that makes truckin easier, like the autoshift transmission, or the lil black box that applies your brakes for you, the easier they make it to drive a truck, the lower the standard for drivers will be when scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I personally think if they would worry about safety much less and worry more about competnecy we would all be much better off, and the safety issue would take care of its self. -
If i was too setup a yard , it would have a place for trl drop lot and a bobtail lot, but since most companys dont have that, i always asked for a drop lot loiction and drop there if i was going too yard ,to fix truck or bs the with staff, most time i would work it in my trip planning, and they would like that ,just a matter of planning,your trips, i even moved a tanker one night a shipper , went inside asked them too move it , it was in my way ,they said there yard dog broke down , i said i can move it, said go for it, so i did , no biggee, it was empty and my trl was way back there loaded by fence so after 7 empty trls , all vans i got too my trl finnly , what a night but o -well thats part of being a trucker right , Everett.

Heck, if Mr. DJ has trouble at the Gary yard, i'd love to be a fly in his truck watching him have a coniption at the Denver yard. There is no rhyme nor reason to that one.
Regarding the use of the term Independent Contractor: I know how much the term Owner Operator irrritates him and he feels the need to correct its use by anyone he deems to have leased their tractor from IEL whether its a known fact or not, so I choose to use the actual correct term that covers owners and lessors.
Oh, and depending on where I'm at in the country, I have a pretty thick accent, too. If I'm in Georgia or Alabama or Maine or, heck, even Wisconsin, I have to slow my speech down a bit so the folks around me can understand me through my Northwest Twang. Yup...and some of the words I use as part of my normal speech and the context I use them in can confuse people too, if they aren't familiar with my regional dialect.

guess it falls under 'work smarter not harder'. cranking down your landing gear all the way is just dumb....but thats just me. how many drivers, when backing under a trailer, actually stop, set the brake, get out and look to see where the 5th wheel hits the trailer? 9 out of 10 dont....i guarentee ya.
