I love that when I get up in the morning I can decide whether or not to put pants on or just drive naked all day.Just kidding. I never wear pants.

I like it just because it gives me something to do and beats sitting at home. Sometimes I just like to drive and listen to the radio, and have some time to myself.
I don't have to drive at all anymore if I don't want to, I drove otr for many years, but now our trucks only do short hauls, we have 4 drivers that do most of our work, but I still do drive 2 or 3 days a week just because I like it and it gets me out of the house. -
Different places and different faces, you cant get that behind a desk. That and the kids who get all excited when you blow the horn, I was that kid once!

The feeling of being needed and wanted for your skills. After having been off work for 15 months it's a great feeling when the load offers come up on the qualcomm.
I can't get enough of the road. I hated my old job. I just mailed it in most days. Can't do that in the truck, wouldn't want to anyway - love it. Just operating the truck with a loaded down trailer behind it, I don't know just seems to click right in the Universe. That feeling that you are doing something important, other people are depending on you. Some people try to treat you poorly, perhaps they are jealous lol.
Bless Them. The 4 wheelers who think you're nuisance and a terror. Bless them. We truck drivers are as important and professional as any doctor, lawyer, teacher or politician out there. -
I like the people I get to meet and talk to....most of the time

Forgot to mention I like driving through towns and cities I have heard of or read about or have seen in movies. Places I never imagined seeing in my whole life otherwise. I love Westerns and the Old West. Love seeing signs like Buffalo Bill's grave or Jim Bridger and the like. Saw a sign other day-- Sand Creek Massacre site x amount of miles that way.... I remember that from Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I love driving through the Great Plains and imagining what it must have been like with no fences, house, grain silos and windmills scarring the landscape with millions of buffalo sweeping across the land as far as the eye could see. I love driving from California to Louisiana and observing the transition in the landscape, topography, and climate. Sweeping north along the Eastern seaboard, listening to the different accents from each state, being called "baby" in Louisiana and "sir" in Delaware. Going through backwoods Appalachia West Virginia to get to Wisconsin or Michigan. Havre de Grace Maryland, I'd heard of the place but now I can say I have been there. Indianapolis' stadium, the huge lake near Dallas, whodathunkit... Chargers stadium behind Lowes lol Invesco Field in Denver, Seattle Kingdome. Going to a customer a second time and already knowing the routine or a truckstop again invokes a feeling of familiarity and comfort in a way like 'going home' if you will. I can see the whole country 600 miles at a time.. It's easy money, my back doesn't hurt anymore my feet don't hurt anymore. I'm in charge of the climate in my work environment. My commute is only a few feet. Although I have to pick up and deliver on their schedule, I can have the freedom to make my own schedule to get it there. Not being addicted to the television and being upset if I miss my favorite show. I could go on and on....

I got stuck in North Bend, Wa. on Friday. When I dropped my trailer off at the shipper I went into town and got a motel. Right on the corner was the restaurant that was in the film Twin Peaks. I thought it was pretty cool. You don't get to see places like that to often out here

The thing I like most about driving is...........................driving.
I have a Freightshaker Columbia day cab. -
I am somewhat of a loner & I obviously enjoy being alone. I can think & dream in my own world. I dont have anyone else to keep up with or supervise & most of all, not being supervised. I am more-so a quiet, shy type personality. I work for a small company that really knows how to appreciate thier employees, so I come to work when I want to & get home when I want. By this I mean... I am home every night & have daily runs. As long as I get my product delivered, I can start at 2 am or 5 am... the earlier I start, the earlier I get home but I like my sleep so I dont go in until I am ready. I get home later, but its not like working in an enviroment where I "have" to be there from 8 - 5. I can stop & eat when I want & where I want as long as I can get that big truck in there or close. Its flexability & not having to watch over my shoulder all the time.
Its just a feeling that you get being in that truck. The other day, I got out at a truck stop for fuel & as I walked around the truck, it dawned on me (again) how BIG this vehicle is & that I actually drive this thing down the road. I been doing this since 1982 & I still get amazed sometimes.
As well, I cant lie about it... seeing ladies flashing on the road is a HUGE turn on. Like it or not, understand it or not.... its a big deal with me & I appreciate every woman who has ever shown any driver anywhere. I know some of you women are frowning right now but a female flasher to me is your new high heals & chocolate to you. Its just in me & I cant help it. Just like you cant help it
Thats just some of the things I like about beng out there alone, on the road, in that big truck. -
Hey there scottied67, if you like the old west you really need to visit buffalo bills grave. Can't take a truck up there as it won't make the turns. I rented a car last time I was in denver and had a day off and I went there. If they could just remove those radio towers a couple of hundred yards away from the grave it would be so much better.
I seem to in a better mood when I work by myself anymore, especially when I am driving. The largest amount of people I have had in one truck besides myself was 4. It was for two days and I think that it was two days too many.
I like seeing the different cultures within the US because of the different landscapes and industries in the areas.
Driving gives me the oppurtunities to see many areas of this world I would not have seen. I have been 150 miles from the artic circle in the dead of winter, 90 miles from Key West FL, couple hundred miles from the Bering Straight and have been to the atlantic ocean. I have had the oppurtunity to feel the temp difference of 168 degrees F in one year. -40 degrees in Yellowknife Canada to 128 degrees in Death Valley. I have been to 41 states out of 50 and 7 out of 10 canadian provinces/territories. Without trucking I wouldn't have done any of this. When I am motoring down the road I am happy.
