A lot of it will be decided by what you're looking for. Do you want to haul dry van? Reefer? Flatbed? Do you want to run 48 states or regional? Or local? Do you mind staying out for weeks at a time or is getting home regularly important? Do you have a family or are you single? This isn't a job or even a career as much as it's a lifestyle. Before you start calling companies for info, you need to decide the things that are important to you. Then get the info from companies and see how the answers you get from them match the answers you've given yourself. Swing by a truckstop and check out the recruiting magazines...get a feel for what the companies are pitching. Once you start narrowing the list down maybe ask a few of the drivers of those companies how they like it where they are, as well as asking on message boards like these about specific companies. Understand that you're starting very green and it will take awhile to learn how to be a truck driver...big difference from simply learning how to drive a truck. Have patience. And Good Luck.
