A woman died early Saturday morning when she drove into the back of a tractor-trailer parked on I-285, Clayton County officials said.
Capt. Tina Daniel with the Clayton police said the 76-year-old woman was alone and driving westbound on the interstate. She hit the tractor-trailer at about 6:50 a.m.
Three of the highway's five lanes were closed just west of Clark Howell Highway for about three hours.
Daniel said the tractor-trailer had been involved in a minor collision with another large truck and the two trucks had pulled over. The other truck pulled into the median, but the tractor-trailer stopped in the right lane of traffic.
The woman then drove under the tractor-trailer at a high rate of speed, said Daniel. "It was a horrible accident."
Daniel said it was unclear how much time elapsed between the two collisions. She said the semi driver had turned on his emergency lights before the woman hit him.
The woman was a Georgia resident. Police were not releasing her identity Saturday evening because her family had yet been notified of her death
Charges may be filed after the investigation is complete. Investigators will stage a crash reenactment Monday morning, Daniel said.

Going to be the truck drivers fault cause the old woman forgot to put on her driving glasses -n- couldn't see 5 feet in front of her
-
if the truck driver was only invloved in a minor accident prior to this woman hitting him.... why did he stop in the road??? musta been unable to move the truck...god i hope so...how awful....
-
If he was able to get off the road and didn't... he can kiss his career and livelyhood goodbye.

Travelinman Thanks this. -
Makes you wonder how soon after the first incident that the second one happened.
I mean, well, the first thing you do after an accident is activate the flashers. The second is to make sure the vehicle is safe to move.
What if the company had stupid rules as well.
I really feel for the driver here. -
Yes some companies don't allow the truck to be moved until a full investigation.
On the other hand if it was just a few moments between accidents the argument could be made that the truck driver was in the midst of moving off the road. -
Its a sad situation all around. But even if company policy says not to move the truck, state law says you must move it to a safe place, if you are able. -
It is easy to jump to conclusions, but the fact is we do not know all the factors of the accident. Until we get ALL the facts we will not know what happen.
