I've seen a few posts about people getting sent home from C1. Why are they being sent home? The guy from DS told me I won't go to C1 unless I'm going to be hired by USA. Is this not true?
I'm supposed to call Monday and find out if USA accepts my application - but I saw posts about having to apply again when you go to orientation and people not being hired. Do they owe for their tuition?
I hope someone can put my mind at ease about these things before Monday!

USA has to accept what I would call a Pre-Application. If is their first step to turn you down.
Most people that get sent home at C1 fail the physical... whether it be medical history problems, drugs in their systems, or whatever... Some people do get sent home because they turn you down, but that is all in the first week and I believe you don't have to pay anything within the first 4 or 5 days iirc.... You'll have to look over the contract before you sign it on the first day you are there. Remember to READ EVERYTHING in the contract before signing... as with any contract
.
After you go through C1 you will get scheduled to go to orientation either in Vandalia, OH or Van Buren, AR. On the first day of orientation they say you are not officially hired until the last day of orientation and you get your little name badge. In my orientation class, they only people that had to leave were a couple failed the DOT Physical (didn't go to C1 previous OTR guys), and a couple had bad driving records (again previous OTR Guys). Everyone else went through the process smoothly.
(If going through C1) At the end of orientation you get assigned a trainer. When I went through I didn't get assigned a trainer right away because they didn't have anyone else available... out of all of us only 3 or 4 got assigned a trainer that day. I went back home (this time rode with a friend instead of riding the bus haha) and on friday i got a call and was assigned a trainer. Was in the truck on Saturday and had a good time, i was with him until he went of vacation and i was assigned another trainer which was also a very good trainer.
Hope that post helps... I wasn't expecting to type so much haha. -
Thanks, Green Machine. Very helpful info. I have no issues with passing the DOT physical and my driving record is clean for 8 or 9 years now, so that should be cool, too. No DUIs. A point suspension 9 years ago. Don't think that should be an issue, being that long ago. Appreciate your help!

When you go to orientation at USA you will go through an interview. In that interview, which will happen 2nd or 3rd day, just be totally honest about your past DR. Be positive at all times and your ears open and youll be fine!..Good luck!

Hey, I'm glad I found this thread and this particular post. I just graduated from C-1 Indy and I am going to Van Buren on the 27th of this month for my orientation.
There were several people that got dropped by their carriers during the 1st and 2nd weeks of training for different issues that came up. After graduating and getting my CDL, I figured my worries were over where that was concerned then I heard of people getting dropped during the actual orientation
Green Machine, having gone through C-1 will I need to go through another physical, background check, etc??? I'm sure I'll have a drug test (goes without saying) but do I need to worry about anything else where all this is concerned???
Thanks for any info. -
Had to do the to drug test and fill out info for them to check my background, driving record, work history, and references.
If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't have anything to worry about, the only people that got dropped in my orientation were people that had previous experience. I know one failed the drug test and one had to many violations on his driving record, the others I'm not sure.
I'm not saying it isn't possible that you won't get dropped at orientation, but I doubt you will unless you lied about something in your history on your application... because if you did they most likely will find it. -
Cool, I don't have anything in my background they don't already know about. C-1 apparently communicates any findings on to our carriers, which I guess is why people kept getting dropped during training.
I don't have any issues that haven't already been reported.
I am getting excited about orientation. I am looking forward to getting to know the ins and outs of the job and getting some experience under my belt. Hopefully I'll get a good trainer who doesn't mind passing on some knowledge.
Thanks Green Machine for your replies. -
So if they drop you, does that break the contract and therefor your responsible for the training tuition at c1?
-
Yes. Although since PAM and USA sort of use the same type of contract you may be able to get with C1 and see if they would be able to get you with PAM, although PAM is usually all team driving.
