Take a look at TruckerDragon's thread "Orientation and Trainer Time." He went through some real heck with his first trainer and successfully removed himself from the truck. He was back on the road with his current mentor in only a little over 24 hours. The guy he's with now actually trains him. Lately, he hasn't had a lot to report because things are going pretty well overall.

Funny how it's only the bad examples you hear about, yeah?

I agree with you on the point that only the bad mentors get recognition Injun,,A class mate and friend had what he considered a great mentor.

I feel for your situation...I wanted off my mentors truck soon after I started seeing he didn't do things my way...lol I look back on things now and realize how much I laerned from him and what I didn't understand then seems to make sense out here in the real world today. My point being is to take control of your decisions while behind the wheel...you gotta go pee...pull over where you want to go. tell him you are throwing your sleeping bag over the bottom bunk while he drives and also tell him you will drive at whatever speed you are comfortable with. I would also remind him that I expect his butt to be riding shotgun the remainder of your first 50 hrs. Then tell him you are ready to learn how to drive a truck. The 240 will go by faster than you think...I stayed in the drivers seat as much as possible to get it over with...but again as uncomfoertable as it seemed then...it was a learning experience...and I am glad now I had the mentor that I had.

okay then, i'm a narc if i see drivers doing things that can/will potentially cause other drivers to work harder because they end up breaking something (i.e. ....the scale). Dress professionally when going to a customer (coming or going)...dont wear flip-flops, when its company policy NOT to wear them anywhere but the shower. Want a nail thru your foot? fine with me....i'm just looking out for your welfare.

I got a nail in my foot wearing steel toed boots. I understand the sliding on the scales.

Flippies are the norm in Lancaster.

    Live and let live.
Another way to look at it is if you narc on every driver who gets out of their truck with a flying leap, triple gainer landing in the splits, you think maybe I saved their life and cost them their job either of which satisfies the anxietal and angry person who has the compulsive need to control everyone else around him/herself.

Sometimes it can be cleansing to just not do that which is expected of us.

so you're saying i should just mind my own business?? then a driver i happen to have seen doing said quad-axle off his top step, i ignore...then he tries it in denver after a heavy snow, slips, and pulls a Nodar Kumaritashvili ?? but so as long as the narc minds his own business??

if i was reporting drivers 'just because' or because i wanna be a 'control freak' its one thing...but i'm just watching out for other drivers. I tend to do that alot when i'm pulling into truck stops and the like....looking out for the other guy. its something called common courtsey.....i'm like a jedi. not many like me are left. =)
