well day 1 of orientation for conway truckload is done. just drugtest, paperwork, and 45* back. i went in as an experienced driver so its nothing new. the terminal here in joplin is very very nice. they put you up in a holiday inn thats pretty nice too, not sure if they bunk you with someone, i got the room to myself but 2 beds. also they have a bus thatl take you to terminal in the am, a shuttle to go to a handfull of places, and also 2 cab companies that will take you anywhere on conways tab. coming from werner this gig is 10x better so far. tomorrow is drive test and probably more company related stuff. ill keep this going as time goes on. thanks for readin.

Looking forward to reading of your experience, Tex. Are you at the old CFI terminal in Joplin? What kind of cpm is a driver with approx 8 to 10 months OTR experience looking at starting with Conway?
-
You will have so much paperwork to sign it will make your head spin. If you get through the driving test around town you are in. Oh also the Smith System they have you practice on your last day is not graded. Yes the instructor will sit and grade how many times you recognize different hazards and such but it isn't an official grade.
venne Thanks this. -
well day2 done! started out with more paperwork.. go figure ha. after that we went and did our road test. i believe i did pretty good, not too hard to drive through Joplin. after that and lunch we just went over policies and whatnot. probably more paperwork tomorrow and pictures for our id's.
boomer, i take it you work/worked for cwtl? -
yea everyone goes to joplin. i believe youl start at .32-.34Poobah Thanks this. -
Yes I was an employee. I put myself thru school at Crowder. I started out at .26cpm. When I got out by myself it jumped to .30cpm. If you have experience I am not sure what you will start out at. I just had an opportunity to take a job at our local hospital in security, which is up my alley as I am a retired cop. Working 3 twelves and off 4 days and pretty good benefits, I just couldn't pass it up. Good luck to you.

yea i had 6 mo experience and started a .32
day 3 done. more paperwork/slideshows and about 6 guest speakers talking about different parts of the company. that basically summed up today. tomorrow is our 'elogs' class. were told to come to terminal with all our belongings and check out of hotel. hopfully all of us will get trucks tomorrow. only 8 of us(2 o/o). they said none of us should have to be sent anywhere else. and we may even have loads tomorrow. i guess we will see. -
Things must of changed cause even those that had experience had to wait for trucks. Sometimes up to a week and a half.

well day 4...
today was just more boring slides over different things about the company, then we did the "smith system" people do think that 'oh i need to pass this to work here'.. you dont, yes they "grade" it.. but the way it is, is that basically if your here Thursday morning.. your in. we got truck assignment before that anyways. i was going to el Paso to get a 2010 pro star but got switched with someone so im getting a t600 outta w Memphis, AR. leavin saturday morning with another go so nothin to do until then. so far i love this company. even talking to other drivers it seems that if they tell you there going to do something it will happen, coming from werner thats a big difference haha. they also mentioned that by 2013 the whole fleet will be BRAND NEW kenworth t660's.The Challenger and venne Thank this. -
