I drove for Schnieder for 6 months . My first real over the Road job. They are extremly skiddish about safety. I got tapped for a random drug screen and my bladder locked up like a rusty vice grip. After I got done dealing with that BS I went to the worlds cruddiest truck company, Gray Transportation. for the year and a hlf I was there I dreamt about how nice it was at Schnieder.

You have to look at a GPS as a guide. I constantly override my GPS instructions. The best way I've found to approach the problem is to respond to your fuel/direction request macro and ask for SNI directions, not street level dirs. SNI dirs are driver directions usually given from the nearest interstate exit and are very accurate. Afterward, you can ask for street level dirs using a mac 3. Just make sure you don't ask for street level dirs before the SNI dirs or your request will be rejected (a glitch in the system). If the 2 dirs don't agree, go with the SNI dirs.

GPS and Pittsburgh are like oil and water...and I also am finding myself just flat-out ignoring the GPS routing more often lately. I use it primarily for my pick-up and delivery locations and the specifics of each. And even then it's wrong sometimes....

And tmr33...about this policy of "freezing in your truck"...care to explain? Yes, there are idling limits. Trucks have auxiliary heaters, and if they fail, you can get help on your idle time from your DBL. I give up my bonus every summer because I will not roast in the truck. I get a slap on the pinkie and the mandatory "Try and do better"...no big deal. Not a perfect world, but hey...you seen the price of fuel lately?

Right. I always write down my directions and follow them instead of the GPS. But a GPS is priceless when visibility is bad or the road is not signed. You can see your turns ahead of time.

If your bunk heater doesn't work, just keep track of your idle time and ask your DBL to roll it back so your bonus is not affected. When the temperature drops below 10 deg you are required to idle, which is once again rolled back. So keeping warm in winter is usually not an issue. And you make a good point about idling in the heat too. SNI doesn't fire you for violating the idle standard unless you idle beyond reason... you'll simply lose your bonus. The idle standard is:
    1st QTR 5%.
    2nd QTR 15%.
    3rd QTR 25%.
    4th QTR 5%.
I constantly monitor my idle stats to stay within bonus parameters. Winter has never been a problem for me. I've found the bunk heater doesn't work well between 10 and 20 deg and that's when I WILL idle. Since the rest of the time my idle stays at 0%, I have some slack to work with. When the truck is warming up, that idle time does not register against you in your statistics. Once you receive the "Intertrip Idle in 60 seconds" warning on your Qualcomm, you should turn your truck off or it will.

I worked 5 years for Schneider and the only thing I had a problem with was their
(OVER SPEED) policy. If you only want me to drive 62 then dont let my truck run 65 on cruise.

Agree. Overspeed is a tool used for taking your bonus away. Nothing more nothing less.

The following applies to Solo drivers: Cruise is set at 60. You can put your foot on the floor and max out at 62 or 63. While you are on Cruise, you will not register as overspeed unless you exceed 70mph (obviously downhill). Anytime you have your foot on the gas pedal over 60mph, you will also register overspeed. Overspeed max for bonus is 5%, which is not a problem.
