As we discussed on the phone, sometimes being in a truck can make ones life easier to manage...

Again, there are many things to factor into that...

    1. single vs married or in a relationship

    2. kids vs no kids or grown out of the house kids...

    3. Property...do you own a house and lots of 'stuff' vs owning nothing accept what you have in storage...

Also, you can take college courses on line, for those motivated to do so...and stay intouch with whomever through the internet or live chat or video cam, ect ect...

So, it can work...just depends on ones attitude...

And admitedly mine was 'bad' towards the end...
I felt I was missing out...and probablly was...
But in the situation I'm in now, I'm still missing out...

There's a twilight zone episode that deals with trying to re-live the past...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLDXoBf_4Lo

About a 'tired business man' who while getting car serviced, decides to take a stroll and finds himself in his past...where he oddly no longer fits in...

Point being...(this only applies to me what I'm about to say next)

But point being...I'm not 19 anymore...as painful as it may be, I'm not...Not that I can't have fun anymore and do my thing, but I have to do it in 'context' maybe...

But sometimes when you've failed to live your past, maturity scares me...when I think of maturity, I think of a graveyard...like that's next...

I sometimes feel like after maturity comes death...

So at times I guess I get the 'Charlie Sheen disease'...where you just wanna act wild and crazy to proove your not gettting old...to proove your still alive...

I'm gonna start a thread titled...

    'You know your poor when'

For instance...this evening...I was so short on gas, but was given a comcheck...I knew I might not make it to designated fuel stop to cash chech, so I threw bike in vehicle, incase I ran out of gas, so I could bike the rest of the way...

Well sure enough...I get about 2 miles from my place, and I run out of gas...

But luckily it was in a strip mall where a check cashing place was, that happened to cash comchecks...so I go there and get check cashed...

I come back to vehicle, and sure enough, am out of gas...so I get gas container, go cross street to gas station, get two gallons, and put in vehicle...then drive vehicle over there and put more in...

Wow...life on the down low...you do what you gotta do, while maintaning a smile.

It all worked out just fine...I ran out of gas right at a strip mall, where there was a check cashing place...got paid, and got gas...wow...

And on the previous page, I remember some of you saying all would be ok, and to just hold out, or have faith in God...wow...thanks...thanks...

It worked...You just can't invent stuff like this up...this is real life struggle...

And thank you U4EA...for being my friend, for calling me, I care about what happens to you...we got cut off tonight...don't know what happened...

    But hey...battery power is low...

We drivers...those of us who make a living doing this...we're a special breed...

    This songs for us..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJYREFafQ9s

This is where I come from...

I know I'm wierd to some of you...expecially those of you who use to see my photos...but believe it or not...I come from rural America...the farmland...

I know you find that hard to believe...

My history is so hard to explain...Indians, chicanos, hicks, farmers, city slickers...

    It's just hard to explain...

    But I love all...even though all don't love me...but that's ok...

continued on next post before battery goes dead...

Just hang in there my friend...and the rest of you...don't stop dreaming...continue to dream with me...and you just never know...

Hey, sorry about the call. I was driving and talking, the next thing I knew the call had been dropped; I figured your battery had died since you didn't call back and didn't want to bother you.

But I am OK :)! Thanks for caring and thanks for being there. Your a true friend.

Oh, I just saw your post - I hope we all get to hang out someday!

Half of me agrees with the o/o's statements while the other half disagrees. So, I guess that it's safe to say that I'm torn. Relationships can work out between two couples when one of the spouses drives for a living. The common scenario is the wife that is preoccupied with her own activities while the truck driving husband is gone for weeks at a time. It takes alot of patience, trust, and understanding to keep the relationship going. While there are many different definitions that defines exactly what a strong woman is, I think that a woman that stands by her truck driving husband through the worst situations as well as his hectic, and unpredictable work schedule is by far THE strongest type of woman. There is nothing more sad than hearing a truck driver sadly stating that his wife of "xx" years was leaving him because the absence of his presence around the house was too hard on her. For unmarried couples, I wouldn't count on the relationship lasting.

It is possible for one to have a life outside of truck driving. I have an o/o friend who is 12 years older than me with 18 years of experience under his belt. This is a typical no-nonsense Texan that is not only married, but has just finished renovations on his house with his wife. Working at home outside of working over the road. He also has his fun, entertaining moments, but there are folks out here that seem to live happy lives while the wheels aren't turning.

I always think that if a driver is an o/o with his own truck, and has limited business expenses then they should take a month off at a time in between long work periods.

I agree with what your saying as well. I'm in no position to describe/pass judgement on OTR trucking and the lifestyle since I've never driven OTR.

I've driven regional with occasional overnights, but never gone weeks at a time, so Ghostchilds posts have much more validity then mine.

I know what the O/O was saying may hold truth in many cases, but he was also trying to scare me so if I did get hired, I wouldn't quit a month in saying "man, I never realized how much this job would stink".

He probably was, as a small business owner, trying to minimize the risk of putting someone in the truck who would never last. I think he liked me, but was hesitant to put someone in the truck who wasn't exposed to the lifestyle before.

Minimum costly expenses just to live at the basic level...

Minimum for food for single person $7.00 a day at $210 a month...very minimum...

    Fuel...$200-$300 a month...let's go with $300...

now were at $510.00 just for food and fuel...

Now let's throw in rent or morgage...Lets say $700...

Now we're at $1,210.00....that you must generate every month to just float...

Now lets add car payment...$200, and insureance $120

320 + 1210 = $1530...again basics...not talking clothing, or phone or maintanance on car or just going out...$1500...is a very low estimate of what most people need just to sustain the bottom of the pyrimad type of survival in todays society...wow...

    Hi,

Well not much to say right now...except things we all discused on previous page, are kinda coming to preminition...hope that is, hope...opportunity and stability...

We shall see...of course nothing is garunteed until it actually occurs...

But I do believe if one keeps their head up, and has good intentions, things will eventually work out...

    We shall see...

I leave a real path of life behind, for others who may follow...and need encouragement...

But unlike in a scripted movie, in this trail, you will take your hits, it's a trail of pain and tears at times, and at other times joy and happiness...a trail of rejection and hostility and at times humiliation...

Destination unkown...but we keep treking, together...until we get there...

    Earthquake hits Japan...8.7 magnitude...

The worst thing about it is their nucluear power plants are designed to shut down when such an event occurs...but some have malfunctioned...and their cooling procesors aren't working, to keep the nuclear rods from over heating, thus preventing a meltdown...

As a result, they've been forced to release toxic or radioactive gas or fumes or waste, into the atmosphere to relieve pressure...

(the above is of an actual explosion that occured)...

This radiation, once in the atmosphere, can drift anywhere...and effect whomever comes in contact with it...

And as we all know, radiation can cause cancer and tumors or worse...

It's almost like a script right out of the original 'Night of the living Dead'...

If you remember in the original movie, radiation was responsible for the zombie like state of the dead or living dead...

Could this really occur in real life?

Whatever happens, God really doesn't have to destroy us, it seems we will do that on our own, whether through radioactive leaks in the atmosphere for us all to inhale, or whether through some botched mass vaccine drive that has us running aound wild like '28 days later' or 'I am Legend'...

It's funny how real life often ends up reflecting fiction...or vice versa...

I wonder how long it will take for that toxic radioactive gas to get to the states...wow...please tell me this isn't happening...

Hi, last post for the night...one of my favorite movies ever is 'Zathura'...it's like the sequal to Jamaji...with Robin Williams...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wGzIGttXa8

You have to watch it, cause it's really about the relationship between two brothers...and a sister...family basically...

Anyone who has ever had a older brother will understand this film...the whole thing of love and acceptance...

It's hard to explain...either you get it or you don't...

Anyhow...out in the cold night air...future uncertain...as usual...

A rebel till the end, but in a good way...not all rebels are bad...or negitave...some rebels are 'good'...

It would be nice if people could figure that out while your alive though...instead of when your dead...

    Anyhow...

You know your poor when you have to go to a public wifi spot and down load movies on youtube section at a time...and then go home and watch them...

Guys, gals...don't be shy...life has so much to offer...just open up...don't be a prisoner to your own limitations...

Many of you like me, but are afraid to publically be my friend...don't be...

Your stronger than that...step out of your cage...

Anyhow...battery powers low...can't wait to get internet service 24/7 again...

Times are tough...but so am I...rock on people...those of you who are strong and thing outside the box...

Watch Zathura with me...you can download all 10 episodes on youtube...

    later...
