I will be doing that as I get more established out here. Still have a personal rule not to go around with more than 5/8 in case they send me a 45,000 pound preplan though... Right now I need the miles to pay for the fuel as I'm kinda on a shoestring budget due to the fact the truck was in the shop for 11 dang days.

Yes the paperwork thing is a biggie. I don't know it was something my mentor/team partner was always talking about-- paying cash for the fuel he estimated would add about $200 a month to his profits --- he claimed.

I had understood that you would have to actually Tcall it at a terminal then be dispatched on a legit run like a short empty trailer move about 10 miles or so then be redispatched on your tcalled load. In other words it is possible but a bunch of ducks need to be in a row already.

I will be trying that next time my load crosses over Wednesday.

redd, trust me they do. they just aint passing it on like our outfit and some others do. injun, no bashing here. thats just the way your outfit operates, but thats about 20 to 25 cents a gallon . i guess you guys fuel surcharge is paid loaded and empty the same? as anyone can see from our website ours is 56 cents a mile, but then we are on percentage on loaded miles and no deadhead pay.

every company has a different program, you have find the the way to make the best revenue within the parameters you have to opertate under.

that is one site i havn't heard of and it is good to use a site such as you say here

personally i use dieselboss to check the fuel prices along my route

when i was at swift the surcharge was only on loaded miles, and the rate was cut by 11 cents for empty miles

First let me apologize for ruining your day and rounding the WA tax off and dropping four one thousandeth of a dollar from the tax. I don't pay pump price. If you enjoy paying pump price and lining someone elses pocket fly at it. If you will get someone to read and explain my post to you you will find that I said sometimes I do buy in other states depending on price. Places in other states where I fuel are 300+ miles away and I require fuel to get there. Another news flash for you: fuel prices are volatile and the best state to buy in today may noy be the best place tomorrow. Your hang up with paying pump price has led you to be comparing apple and oranges.

since you cant keep track of what you post you were off by 23.5 cents a gallon on your tax rate

and i have never seen it make more sense to purchase fuel in oregon where there is no tax at the pump, then to buy it where you pay tax at the pump the raw price will almost always be better in ID, WA, and CA,

sure one or two days a truck stop may have a killer deal ( have yet to see it)
where if you buy fuel in OR it may be cheaper then the RAW price in a neighboring state but is it not the norm.

so again i ask if you get such a good fuel rate why don't you use that same discount and fuel where the RAW price is going to be better than OR???

OHH wait you just don't undetstand the IFTA process:biggrin_2559:

for the same reason that most people that understand and are paying the fuel tax, will run HWY 14 across WA to avoid the costly mile tax in OR, but if they don't pay it they don't care

    ive made my point

    Thanks Injun,

That make it alot easier to plan. I used to do that with my last company that I leased with, and I was know for holding trips back since we did not have accelarated pay there. Deliver Weds morning, purchase enough fuel to get you there and get the paperwork in. Then next dispatch, fuel up if if good area for fuel.

    Injun and scottied67 Thank this.

Oooohhhh-kay. Since I would really appreciate this thread remaining open, please try not to take comments personally. This is important information and thus far, every post has offered excellent information. I would just really like not having to wade through a pissing match to get it.

Exactly. I was going to start a different thread about this, after all the questions about IFTA and fueling to ones adantage have been covered.

Basically what he said was, "Buy your fuel where the base price of the gallon (before taxes) is the lowest".

It doesn't matter where you buy it because you will still pay taxes based on the miles travelled in all jurisdictions. And you will get a credit from the states where you purchased more fuel than what you used in that state.

Native Dancer has been around long enough that he filed fuel tax reports BEFORE IFTA even came into existence.

ie; If you ran 16 states than you filed 16 fuel tax reports, you also purchased 16 tags as there was no Reciprocity plans between states and provinces.

Native Dancer, scottied67 and Injun Thank this.
