I am getting so po'ed with the road training situation that I could spit nails. As some may have read in a previous post, I finished Millington on 3/13/11. Had to wait until the 3/22 to actually step into the truck for the "third week of road training" which has eroded into 17 days. This includes going home 3/28-4/3 due to no trainer. So why am I po'ed? Well a student we picked up Monday took his test today. After 3 days, he gets the time slot for today "because he complained about "needing to get out there and make money." Excuse me? If that wasn't bad enough, at the end of today, "we (another student who has been here longer than I due to he is on academic probation) were told that we would be evaluated on all our skills and road training and get two chances and if we didn't pass either one it wouldn't be good." Well, this did not please me at all. I mentioned that "I wanted to be evaluated, should have been evaluated sooner, and it was about time." I also mentioned that it was not of my choosing to sit through two weeks of delays, not having an open test date until the 13th and 19th. I felt like it was being inferred that I had been here long enough. Well no *hit! Whose fault is this? Maybe the instructor was directing it toward the student who is on AP, but being he stated it to us both, I took it he was directing it to me also. Who knows? I do know that the new guy who passed his test made more mistakes on his evaluation than I have been making. Maybe I am just being sensitive and irritated by being strung out for this so-called "third week" of road training that has lasted 17 days so far. Grrrr..........:biggrin_25510:

Buckeye that really sucks ,,,and I'm sure that other driver did too........just grin and bear it......look at it as training for getting jerked around waiting for a load, waiting to get loaded and unloaded.....and contrary to popular believe...flatbedders do have to wait sometimes also

Nik: It's not so much that the other driver sucked on his skills. He was fine and passed his cdl tests. I only noticed that he was no better or worse than I am doing. It was his boo hoo'ing about "needing to get out to make money" (teaming with his Dad?) and getting the one test slot this week that irked me. I am finally getting my pre-test evaluation from the road training instructor tomorrow. I can't blame the instructor per se for the delays. He had to have that week off, and when here has been very good in teaching us our road skills. I am confident that I will pass the evaluations, unless something unforeseen occurs....like stalling an engine or the like! :biggrin_25521: I am using these delays during schooling as a sort of "on the job" training for similar situations I will need to cope with OTR.

I completed my instructor's road evaluation yesterday. I got 13 points: 4 on grinding gears, 1 for intersection check, 2 for too fast on turns, 1 for taking a 45 mph ramp at 45, 2 for tandems on white line on a right hand turn and 1 for too fast when doing an emergency pullover (the shoulder was full of potholes, so bounce, bounce). Forget what the other 2 were for. To pass his evaluation, we could not miss more than 16. I was disappointed about making it with only 3 points left to give; seemed too many. The instructor told me "WTH you complaining about? That was very good, because the testers give you 29 points! You should be fine unless you totally lose it during their test , so don't lose it!" My problem is I am a perfectionist and when I make a mistake(s), I get irritated with myself and then tend to make more mistakes. I will be taking my cdl test next week, so I'll just need to relax and try and let the mistakes go when I am doing my tests. Any advice, besides "just try to relax"?

Very good advice Biker Dave. Let me add that not all curves are posted. A driver needs to learn how to look at a curve and determine what speed you should be going when you enter the curve.

Idk what kind of truck your using but most shift good # 1400-1600 rpms--depends on engine i believe. They always told me ramp speeds posted--trucks should go 10 mph slower. Hope this helps some.
