That's because you are unable to think for yourself and make decisions.(removed by moderator, too graphic for a family friendly site) like Knight, then dont work for them. It's pretty simple to make it through life productively on your own without having to follow idiotic rules.

Unions just have their own set of problems which are different from non-union jobs. I've had both. Neither is great if the ownership and management is poor at the workplace. The worst working situation I was ever in (not the job itself, but the whole environment) was a Pepsi plant in Michigan that was union. A-W-F-U-L.

Take it to the union thread! This is supposed to be about Knight.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

Agreed, Dave. Union talk belongs in the union threads.

Knight is not a bad company. It could have to do with the Terminal that your friend is out of. Also you may not be getting the whole story. I can tell you this after being with Knight the Chicago Terminal is a Rat Hole. But I can tell you that I have always gotten my Bonuses and I turn about 11,000 miles amonth out of the KCK Terminal. In order to get your bonus you MUST LOG/Drive atleast 10,000 miles a month. Also why would a company want to give a new truck to a rookie driver that could tear it up or wreck it... Also Knight doesn't hire students fresh from drivers school. There is a Division of Knight that does but it a different company with different tractors they just pull Knight Trailers. Also Knight will not leave a driver with a problem truck. If your friend is truely having truck issues he needs to talk with a Terminal Manager they are the only ones who change that, not Dispatchers or Driver Managers. But I know getting home from some places are not as easy as others. But I and the other drivers that are in my terminal are normally home like clock work unless they like stayinig out a month or two at a time or you end up out east in NYC. Do you work for Knight Drew? I wouldn't bash em til you did or do. It sounds like to me Slowpoke had a crappy Dispatch but thats why you ALWAYS get everything in Writing over the Qualcomm. Cover Your #####
Slowpoke I hope your wife makes a full recovery.
Drew I would find out if theres a part of the story your not hearing -
I know about the "beginner" division, Squire trucking. I also know my friend to be just about the most honest guy I know, which is why I've been friends with him for just under 30 years. When he screws up, he admits it. No I dont have first hand knowledge of every conversation he's had because obviously I wasn't there. What I DO know is this--he has been about out for 5, 6 and 7 week stretches since Thanksgiving. Knight DOES leave their drivers with a "problem truck", and I don't know how on earth you can flipantly say otherwise. He has been down almost 35% of his time since November, and that I do know seeing as how he CONSTANTLY is calls me from the same hotel/building/terminal for days on end. Two promises by terminal managers for new rides (he was very optimistic both times and motivated again) have blown by their promised dates with nothing happening.
And "I wouldn't bash em til you did or do" work for them is the silliest, laziest type of argument imaginable. I can only assume then that you, of course, NEVER criticize your government (unless you were an elected official at some time), NEVER criticize your own managers or bosses (unless you used to have their jobs and stepped down on purpose) or EVER argued with your wife or girlfriend (unless you've had some surgery we don't know about.) Please do better than that.
I'm glad you have a great situation with Knight. I wish my friend were so lucky. A poor job experience is miserable, and thats what he has with Knight. Given our regional job base there aren't a lot of options for someone without 2 years experience so he's stuck for the time being. And since this IS the forum for talking about problem companies it only seems fair to warn new hires what they can realistically expect from Knight unless they get lucky like you did.truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
Well a lot of depends on which terminal he's based out of. I know first hand that some of the terminals aren't worth a darn. I had the same issue with truck but when I turned truck around went back to shop & told them that they needed to fix this or I wasn't driving. They went to give me a loaner truck well I just moved everything to new truck and made the decision to stay In new truck.
