I have heard a little scuttle but about it, not sure what the advantage/disadvantages are. Except for routine hometime. I'd be interested in learning more. But not interested in participating

Thomas, were you at West Memphis yesterday watching the derby? There was a guy there talking about that and he was from Texas as well, but can't remember the city haha.
-
sure was had a load delivering to Roanoke Texas this morning
-
Maybe it's local runs, or within just the few surrounding states...who knows, ask your fleet manager for info on it...
-
Well it was nice meeting you then lol. I was the one behind you that started talking to the guy beside me about his new truck and stuff about our fleet manager.
-
ok gotcha was nice meetin you too

Talked with my fleet mngr. yesterday, and he said the goal for the entire company before long is to be regional.
There will be a 500mi radius from your house you will run. They will guarantee you a salary, and then if you get more miles than what they want for the salary you will get more on that check. This way there are no bad weeks, just better weeks if you earn them. That and you will be home every weekend.
Not sure on all the details as he said he only knew a little about the plans. There are a few regional routes now already. Some in the NorthEast and some in the South. I think it will be cool as long as they pay us good on the salary and the potential to make more is attainable. -
I did northeast regional for a few months before I left this past November, though it really wasn't any more "regional" than it had been when I was OTR. The difference was that I was home every weekend and that I was almost always preplanned. I liked it way better than OTR, and I actually got better miles in the 5 or 5.5 days that I was out than I did when I worked 7. I still went out to Illinois/Wisconsin area, and even down to Miami once, and still got home on the weekend.
Wright, they've been talking about moving to a Heartland Express style operation since I started there in '09, maybe they're actually finally taking steps in that direction.
Thomas, did you end up moving to the regional fleet? -
How does Heartland Express run?
Only thing that sucks is they are changing us over to electronic logs before long...
