While in school, I drove year 96' KW truck 8 speed for the training and passing the CDL test and if I now drive a modern truck, would it be easier or harder for me, as far as shifting goes? And what are some of the major differences I should look out for?
    Thanks.

96 is old......really !!!! I guess my 94 Pete is an antique. But shifts like new, but again, never driven a "MODERN" truck.

    lol..

when did '96 get to be old?

shifting is the same, maybe a little less forgiving on a truck that hasnt been reemed out by students. but thats the only difference

Hehe, I had my first four hour road drive last night. I hope to hell most companies have better trucks then schools do. It was a 10 speed and had a misfiring cylinder. Talk about sluggish and rough as heck.

My underwear is older than that.

    It has been washed though.

    I think.

If you go for a road test with a company let the observer know that you learned on an 8 spd. They may be a little more tolerant of shifting problems. In my case I had been out of school for about two months before going for the road test. The observer let me run the truck around the yard for a few minutes before starting the road test.

I was thinking the same thing, I love the older trucks though, seems the older they are the more reliable they are...

When I was taking the driving course at my local community college they had 3 trucks. 2 10 speeds and 1 13 speed. It was great getting a chance to drive both.

If a '96 KW is old, I'd hate to see what they consider the '63 B-Model I drove for awhile.
