Everyone has their comfort zones. Some can sleep when it is hot and some can't. I am one of those that can not sleep when it is overly warm. Above 75 degrees and I am sweating like a pig and tossing and turning all night getting little too no rest.
Now on the other hand, 30-35 degrees and I can leave the truck off and sleep like a baby.
Owner ops have their own choises, they can fix their trucks and have properly operating AC etc in them if they want. As a driver of a company truck, The heat and AC better be working properly or I won't drive it. But then I have a decent boss that has no problem making sure EVERYthing is working properly on a truck.
I say, if the company won't fix the problems on the truck then ##### them. My liscense does not limit me to one company.
Oh well, my truck is in the shop, full service job, rebuild the fifth wheel plate and repair a leaking coolant line to the bunk etc. I have to jump in a different truck for the day and do a few short runs. Not happy about it but oh well. -

Grow up, dude.southtx Thanks this. -
We can all agree that the companies have very poor ethics. Also dont care about their employees. These companies are making millions I dont see why when they build the trucks to make it mandatory to have these APU's in them. So what can we do about this? Because ######## on here is not doing any good.
truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
It is legal for them to deny you idling time. Someone had mentioned that APU's should be mandatory equipment on these trucks. I thought so too. I've been idling my truck for 36 hours now (off and on) and the qualcomm is reporting just 23 gallons have been burned. I could have gotten a hotel room for a day to mitigate that. Or a $10,000 APU that will burn just .4 per hour less in diesel. I think a lot of companies are looking at it like that as well, why spend so much money to save so little when we can just adjust the idle time for the drivers and if they don't like it we will hire more drivers.Another solution these companies have come up with is transferring the responsibility over to the driver in the form of a lease wherein the driver will now purchase the fuel sans surcharge for idle time
