My fears of becoming a trucker

I smoked until I started driving and you better believe the day I find a new line of work I'll be right back to the same street corner and buying weed from the same Jamaican guy I used to buy my weed from. I think it's his son by now though.

As of now, I still enjoy my work but everyday I am finding more and more reasons to justify finding something else to do. Every time you turn around there's someone waiting to take your days pay from you. I am pretty lucky too be able to run how I want, work as hard or not as hard as I choose but our safety girl is a freakin Nazi and would not hesitate for a second to toss a driver under the bus if it would benefit her. It's the DOT possessing her but that's just one of the many reasons why this job is getting harder to justify.

 

yoiu are describing trucking period. you just have to know how to handle, each situation. you will be at fault in accidents in spite of your position, ticket know big deal pay it fast and it will benefit you. know what you want before you take a job with anyone. realize that every company has it own personality make sure you fit in with the company. don't beat yourself up over incidents just be careful.

 

Yep, have thought that myself, a very tender job. Remember an awful lot of people just can't qualify to drive truck, some already know it and others don't.

Some already know that they are too scared to even try to sit in drivers seat and shift and go down the road, thats why they don't try.

Try not to sweat about, just keep it in the back of your mind that you need to mind your p ^ q's to keep this job. Watch what you do and don't think you can get away with doing what you might want to do. Being nervous about it might just be what keeps you employed.

 

After 15 years (No tickets,no wrecks and less than 6 trucking jobs in that time span) i gave it up and would not go back no matter what! The last job i had i took home at least $1500,sometimes over $2000 each week but even that was not worth all of the BS i put up with from not only the company i worked for but from the other truckers,the cops and the motoring public at large. Driving a truck OTR for a living is not worth it anymore and it's getting worse each week. When i first starting OTR it was the greatest job there was but now people would rather run you over than speak to you!

If you can get a local driving job then go for it but dont do OTR.If you have questions like this now then once you get into it and find that your concerns were correct, YOU WILL HATE IT!
