just curious, but why dont you want to stick with conway? i hear they are a very good company to work for, but that 5 years to top pay thing would kill me
-
Day and night different. There are many threads on here in different forums about it, just do a search.

hit the fuel pedal too quick from a standing start or even while cruising, you'll see how much different.
do not slow down properly coming up to a stop sign/red light, you see how much different.
make a quick lane change on the highway, you see how much different.
have a crash and a spill, MY GOD, YOU SEE HOW DIFFERENT...
takes time and perhaps some training, it CAN BE DONE if that is what you want to do. but as someone said, you are at Conway..?? don't you like it there..??ACH1130 Thanks this. -
o i love it there, but only problem is i cant survive off ofonly working 8-15 hours a week, my place overhired while i was in training and bumped me down to board, now those guys r gettin what should be my runs

You have to slow down alot more then other trucks when taking sharp curves, start slowing down early to reduce the amount of surge that's going to slam you when you stop, use the surge to help you shift and never try to shift while the surge is going back, accelerate slower then you would with a box trailer, when going up a steep hill make sure your interlock is in and you don't slam the liquid backward ( you look like an idiot when you get stuck halfway up a hill and have to back down it hahaha), and try not to make any jerky movements from side to side. It's a different style of driving but like anything else you'll get use to it.

ACH1130 Thanks this. -
ok, that can be a problem alright.....
well you can start looking around, however, you need to remember, your time behind the wheel where you are at now....you may NOT have enough to qualify for a tanker's job.......it don't hurt to try, but be prepared for nothing too.
can you work the docks at Conway..?? it's still "some" money to earn..nicknack Thanks this. -
my terminal isnt a big one, the outbound supervisor does call me in everyday but like i said its only like 3 hours of work. last week i got 29 hours in which was enough money for my bills, but this week theres nothing. if conway get busy again then im deff. gonna stay, everyone there is great. The place i looked at for tanker said that they have no prob teaching me how to drive one, but i need 2 yrs exp and only have 8 months so they said we can look into it on how u drive. Ive been driving trailer since i was 16 so i no how they work turn, back etc, and i no that tank is different, lil similar to driving the doubles but seems much diff. im also a fast learner too so id catch on quick, plus i drive firetrucks at my volunteer fd so i no how a tanker kinda works since we have one but jus smalled and not a trailer

Ditto,
Making a quick lane change on a highway and curves is something to watch for sure with a tanker. You want to slow down a little before a curve but don't go slamming on the brakes. I got a little rough slowing down on a big curve once and she started getting sloppy on me. And floating gears helps a lot with liquids in my opinion as well. I can double clutch pretty good but every once and a while I'll pop the clutch a little. Then I got liquid product slushing and surging. So I float every gear now. -
yea i can c that, its jus a different style of driving, it was like when i had to drive doubles for the first time, but i got used to it in a few days driving. Thx for everyone for the info, and the place i did apply to did say they have no problem training me on a tanker so wish me luck.
