Yup, 63 and last drove OTR in 1990, I've been in straights the past 5 years.
I'm trying to avoid a local CDL schools $6500 for 250 hrs training (NTI), ouch. I'm planning to take the CDL test this week to get my permit but fear I'll still need to do something like Swift.

How about Prime, Inc.? Their CDL "school's" tuition is $3500.00, but it's waived if you stay with them for one year; $1750.00 if you stay only six months.
Their "driver-trainer" period is 4 - 6 months, so I don't know when the tuition waiver "clock" starts; at the very beginning or after the 4-6 month driver-trainer period.
God speed and good fortune to you.

PS: BTW, what local school are you referring to? I've got a local one in Miami ("The CDL School") that charges $6595.00 (160 hrs.), so I'm researching "in-house" schooling/training with a carrier.Last edited: Jul 19, 2011
