@ Injun I just looked over your #'s and you make less or about as much as a company person. You listed 13,000 in over 4 months. You did not list the Federal taxes you pay, SS taxes, state taxes that you might pay. So the little over $800 a week you are making dose not include this. Plus being your own boss you pay more then comes out of our checks.

So is minimum wage rate. If you're working for minimum wage, taxes are taken out of that rate. What is it, $7.25/hour now? Your check stub shows 40x7.25...$290/week. But you don't get to keep all of it. The guv'mint gets its cut first. Between SS Tax, FICA and Medicare, you lose roughly 15%. That leaves you with $246.50/week. If you live in an income tax state, you lose even more. And this is just the stuff you're required to pay.

So, let's say our minimum wage chump gets some good overtime each week. He'll get time and a half for it. I'll give him 26 hours of overtime just so he's putting in 66 hours/week...which I DON'T do. He gets $572.75...BEFORE taxes.

I'm clearing $1,370/week, also before taxes, which includes the money I voluntarily set aside. How can you say this is minimum wage?

Yea when I move to a new company that I already have been accepted. I am just trying to give Swift a chance before I make the move. Really would like to stay here but have to make money. I am giving it one more month and if no change then I go to what seems to be a better company to work for from what their drivers tell me.

Plus everything is double what Swift pays as far as layover, breakdown, detention and so on. And 12 cents more a mile plus APU's

That company can afford to pay its drivers more, install APU's, and has big giant arrows on its trailers pointing forward to their most important assets. There's a culture of respect from the top down toward the drivers there. They know where their bread is buttered.

Well that's the Sell anyway. Always remember a positive attitude begets positive results and the opposite is true as well. Me, I'm happy with Swift. I'll be there as long as they will have me.

From the research I've been doing, Shaffer has really low miles. But if you get paid more for them, I guess it doesn't matter, does it?

There is no perfect company. Heaven knows I've been trying to find one for awhile now. I just looked at what was important to me and tried to find the one that offered most of it. The question remains whether they will have me or not. If they won't, I'll go to the next company on my list.

Actually Shaffer drivers have told me their miles are just fine averaging 2500 or more miles a week. At 42 cents a mile plus practical miles I would probably do well there.

    $100 a day breakdown
    $30 and hour detention
    $100 a day layover

I have no idea how much they pay for Unloading the trailer if you need to. I already talked to them and just having the APU to me shows they care more about their drivers comfort while taking the required break.

Plus I don't have to type GOAL every time I back.....:yes2557:

$1050 a week at 2500 miles with Shaffer
    $800 a week with Swift

That is $250 more a week??? There starting pay is 42 cents a mile with one year. Plus your not just a number. I will try the new terminal out first and see if things improve. If not then I have plenty of choices..Just hate switching jobs...
