Seems like I remember years ago one of the big ones, Schneider maybe, tried to govern O/O's I found that funny....about as funny as forced dispatch for O/O's..
IMO, if your renting a truck thru the lease program you shouldn't be governed either it should be the drivers choice because its the drivers money paying for it...
What are Swift's trucks governed too?

My understanding is that Swift has the trailers insured up to 68 mph, and thus why L/Os are governed at 68.
inkeper Thanks this. -
I get the insurance part but not the warranty part......What or which warranty and by who ??
-
That's crap. If it had anything to do with the warranty then every truck at every dealer would limited the same way.

I read this in the lease contract. It has to do with Swift's deal with the truck companies it acquires trucks from. That is why they are so strict with overspeed violations. If the truck went over a certain speed and an engine problem resulted the warranty would not apply and Swift is stuck with the bill. Cheaper to start the rookies out on old beat up trucks that are out of or close to out of warranty before putting them into brand new trucks they might over speed in then have to fire them and have a new truck with no warranty.
I took over a lease truck, my question was what if the other guy over sped it and I have to suffer the consequences of no warranty for his indiscretion? -
Thats what rev limiters are for to protect the engine..

I'd be more concerned that they want you to drive a truck that might fly into a million pieces (according to their warranty) if you go faster than 63. Talk about garbage on the roads.
-
They are built to do 70+. A Cummins ISX for example doesnt really like being governed at low rpm. I doubt 70 mph would void any manufacturer warranty. Its simply a company policy and the low insurance rates that are the reason the co's neuter their vehicles.

Wouldn't that be ironic. "Swift! The absolute slowest! 45mph B!T>#E$!!!" ... I should've been a slogan maker instead of a truck driver
