judging by your other posts in other usa forums I dont think you have to worry about it. I am pretty sure you need to be currently employed by USA to be a trainer.

Does anyone have the approximate percent of students that don't make it through first and second phase training.

I doubt USA Truck releases this kind of information. But it's my guess this number is very very small. I have spoke to many USA Truck driver trainers about this very topic, USA Truck needs drivers so bad that you have to be a total screw up to get dismissed. One trainer told me he called Carol to get a student off his truck because said student simply could not back into a dock. He put him on a bus and got another student, only to see this same student with another trainer in Spartanburg SC a while later and this new trainer was saying he was close to calling Van Buren about this student. So this should tell you the chances of getting through their driver training program.

What team freight? I've been training for USA Truck since 1994 and my avg length of haul is now below 400 miles.

I do know that it's pretty high from my own experience. USA does a pretty good job of screening them

I might be wrong but I don't think Schneider trains anymore. At least that's what I'm hearing from drivers that have talked to them. But that's besides the point.

As a trainer I would not recommend it to anyone that does not treat driving as a "lifestyle" not a job. To train you have to be extremely patient, be familiar with all the rules and regs, not just the few that most drivers know. Also, be able to teach a new student how to make money without cheating on their logs, fuel economy, customer service, and many other things that most so called trainers won't do. If you are new out here yourself then wait, there are enough companies out her with students training students and often the results are deadly.

Right seat training is how all USA students without previous experience start out. The trainer is in the right seat teaching or the left seat demonstrating. This is now designed to last around 2 weeks. This is the only time you get the extra daily pay they promote and really doesn't make up for the inconvenience of having someone else in the truck with you. Along with the longer times it takes you to get anyplace or get into a dock.

But that doesn't mean that you, as a trainer, are always going to be in that right seat either. Once a student has enough training to be allowed to drive alone, then so be it. The trainer stays with the student in the truck and continues to train, helping him fine tune when needed, offering encouragement, and directions. Here is where you can make some extra money if you get run right. Sometimes you do, often you don't. And, you are also going to have to sleep on some of the roughest roads in Americas history with the lack of repairs, and tires that often go unbalanced. USA by the way does not balance drive tires so plan on getting used to the harmonic vibrations going through your pillow as you go down the road.

Not everybody will learn at the same pace. I've held students back that weren't ready to upgrade, but also have expedited training for those that were more capable and advanced.

Training done right is rewarding in itself, I enjoy the phone calls I get when the student calls and says Thank you for training me, I've passed and am on my way to get my own truck.

In a nut shell, if you are serious about driving and its more than just a job to you, then do the training thing. But don't let them entice you into doing it just because you might make a little more money. Just like recruiters you are told what they think you want to hear.

I've had students come onto my truck from other trainers. Sometimes a different trainer is all it takes to get the idea of backing through to a student. I'm hope nobody gets tossed after their first attempt. Where would any of us be if we didn't try to walk again after taking our first few steps and falling?

They still train drivers that come from driving schools. They don't do the schooling anymore like they used to.

Hey Frog, Good to hear that they have some trainers that care about what they do. Have no problem with being a safe driver, my backing & other driving skills are always done with safety in mind. I'm sure there is always room for learning & look forward to getting a trainer with your ideas on training. Will be there next week, would be nice to run into you.
