Hello all. I am new to this site. 48 years old and happily married. Thinking about going to work for this company. I was employed my 1st 6 months in trucking, as a "Lease Operator" with TransAm Trucking. I drove 50,000 plus miles and was in 30 different states. That is a story for another day. I stoped driving on May 12, 2011. I wanted to take the summer off to see if I would miss trucking. After spending my 17th gruling summer in FL, I realized I do miss trucking.
I just wanted to say I think the web is good and bad. Is their really any good OTR trucking company? All of them need you to be away from home for some time. Yes they all lie! It's this business! GET OVER IT or DO SOMETHING ELSE!!!
This "lifestyle" is not for everyone. Good or bad, at least we are earning our own money. Some income is better than none.
God bless all my Driver brothers and sisters. See you out there.

With all due respect, if you have half a brain, stay away from these clowns. I went to orientation. There was 10 of us there. We froze our ### off in their crap hole dump motel. Was lied to greatly by their idiot dingbat recruiter. When you cross the Mississippi river going west, your pay drops a nickel per mile. The trucks they assign to new drivers are junk. You will travel by bus to some hole in the wall place to pick up a trk that was abandoned, and that will be your truck.
If you decide to call their recruiting dept, make sure you record the phone call. Then if you decide to go to orientation, pay attention to how many things that you were told by the recruiter, that just ain't so.
Then for ##### and giggles, just before you walk out, play the recording of the recruiter, and watch fireworks. But make sure you accuse the recruiter of lying, and then when the 'I.I.C", (idiot in charge at Murray), starts telling you that your making up things, you've freeloaded on them for a motel and meals, and that you weren't serious in the first place, and that McDonalds is suited for you the best, pull out the recording. They attempted to refuse to get me a return bus ticket home. I informed them that they got me there by false pretenses, and they would get me home. They finally agreed after they realized I was recording them attempting to deny everything.Pauliep63 Thanks this. -
Thank you both for your input. Outlaw, when was your experience with them? Are you driving now?
I have spent many nights replying to posts on Craigs List hoping to find a smaller company to run with. Most of the adds are from recruters with large companies. I was lucky enough to have one of the larger companies call me. She explained to me, the only reason the level of driving experience varies, is due to the insurance companies that insure their equipment.
This being said, I have learned, DO NOT PICK ANY COMPANY THAT HIRES OUT OF DRIVING SCHOOL!!!
Can they really be any worse than my last employer. I donated 6 months 11/2010 thru 5/2011 driving their refer. My settlements were negitave most weeks, even when my weekly milage was 2500. Just when I was having a good week, the next trip would "cash out" in the following pay period. Result - milage shortage.
Any sugestions, please???

My experience with PTL was 1 year ago. Just spoke with another person two weeks ago, that went to PTL, and also walked out of orientation. They still send new employees everywhere to pick up abandoned trucks. New drivers have no info on the truck, other that trk number.
Yes, I am driving now, and training for another company out of Springfield, Missouri. I'm a company driver, get good miles, and make good money.Pauliep63 Thanks this. -

Don't know what she meant by this. From my experience, being a driving school trainer, hiring out of a driving school, affords me with the luxury of not having to teach these students how to shift, and pass their CDL test, therefore when I get them, allows me to focus on teaching them to make proper turns, improve their backing ability, adjusting the weight of the loads, educating them on qualcomm, company policies, etc.Pauliep63 Thanks this. -
What I ment was, I think that an experienced driver might not want to wok for a company that hires out of school. As per Outlaw, I am wrong. I agree. I will try to find his company.
I know now, I must stay with my next employer longer than my last one.
I will contact any company sugested by anyone in this post.
Thanks again all!! -

When contacting any recruiter at a trucking company, it's very important to ask the right questions. Some even record their conversations with the recruiter, as I did with PTL. Ask questions such as pay per mile, year, make and model of truck, miles per week, time out b4 allowed to go home for hometime. length of hometime allowed, vacation pay, safety and fuel bonuses, ask if they have apu's on their truck, whats their policy on idle time. new york city deliveries, do they require hazmat, rider policy, pet policy. Cover your ###, because they won't!!!!!!
Pauliep63 Thanks this.
