Well, I talked to Megan today over at PowerFuels and jvar4001 wasn't kidding when he said that they only hire drivers with two years experience. She explained that it was what their insurance company highly advised them to do. That being said, this is not gonna shake me in any way as they are only one company out of many. I'm still hoping one of the others in ND that I have applied at will come through soon. A couple of you (Gisquid, dogknot) mentioned Texas oil fields and yes, I have seriously considered starting out there. In fact, that's where I might be heading if nothing comes through soon in North Dakota. I had my heart set on starting the door pounding next week in Dickinson, ND but now I am second guessing it because of the weather combined with a lack of places to stay (I don't have a camper or trailer). More importantly, I don't even known if me showing up at the companies I've applied at is really going to speed up the HR process. So, now I am trying to figure out if it is worth the trip and, if so, which direction I should be heading. I just can't stand sitting here waiting, so I'm definitely feel the need to head somewhere. I just don't know where!!! I'm either going to North Dakota or Texas to start banging on doors and begging for work. I spoke with someone today at Nabors in Odessa, TX since I had heard this company mentioned a few times and they said that they would have someone call me back. I haven't heard anything back yet, but I have my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

See The Big Picture
Through my eyes and how I see things. If I am given proper instructions on how to do the job. Then a insurance issue is very small. I see there point of view also. If you screw up then there rates go up considerably. You have to convince someone that your worth the chance.
Looking from a standpoint of operations and research.
I know they went from 60 to 300 employees.
I know they are building 1000 apts in Waterford.
I know through research Mark Johnsrud push to get funding for US Highway 85 Corridor
I know they changed LLC names 3 times
I know that Landtech Enterprises LLC is there sister company 12/wells and 3/under construction and more planned.
I know about the Fire and the litigation."This was Preventable"
And I know much more doing research in a very short time.
If they can't make an exception, that fine. I will have to hear it myself. If all else fails I will be in Texas with you fellas. My goal is to Run my own trucking crew or the whole #### transportation fleet. I won't be denied!
PS: If you use the Research give me credit is all I ask...
Motivation: God, Family & Countrystiffride Thanks this. -
60 to 300 employees at power fuels? It certainly feels like some of us maybe missed a window of oppurtunity to perhaps get in on the ground floor with less than 2 years experience when they were probably more desperate for drivers.
My gutt tells me the 2 years thing is still sort of bs but probably a reality as of right now but things can change very quickly. They arent the only great company out there I'm sure and its probably just a matter of keeping one's ears and eyes open.
For the record, I said i would stay loyal with nabors and i will. If something much better came along, i wouldnt just leave without giving nabors a fair oppurtunity to keep me around. I know how much more i'd like to make and it doesnt have to be top industry type dollars. I think its just a matter of being fair vs. the competetive market right now and what it has to offer.
I'll talk a little bit more about nabors later on and give the straight scoop and point out how all those great intangibles you have and willingness to go the extra mile doesnt really apply here at the particular location i work at. It doesnt mean its a bad place, its just that they have their structure here and attitude to go with it and a motivated person will be limited to a large extent and the extra mile doesnt buy you much here......if at all.
Also, part of that extra mile here will not make friends with your co-workers and can compromise certain things about yourself that make you feel like a man. Things such as "observation reports" which many here feel are "snitch reports".
Also, there is no structure as far as getting pay raises. You just come in and work, do your job and perhaps hustle your way into more pay by asking for it??? Who knows, nobody here knows how you get more money here because they certainly dont hand it to you regardless of how well you do. It seems that nobody cares and it works both ways. They dont bug or push you which is really nice but at the same time, dont expect to get rich here either lol......works for me for now but thats some of the realities here and thats part of why many drivers come and go here.....even guys who have been working here for years.
ok, goin to work now, love my job, see you guys later! -
Are there any owner op jobs in the field up there?
-
HIFIJIM, even if you make the tip to Texas to work in oil then you are accomplishing at least 2 of your goals!! Working in oil and supporting your family!! Get some oil exp behind you and more opportunities will come!!
-
Paulcouto, I admire your ambition!! I would not be surprised if you were to make the leap to ND!! I believe you will eventually end up working there before 2012 ends!! Working for Nabors is just the beginning not the end for you!! Who knows maybe Powerfuels will take you with under 2 years exp due to the fact that you will have 1 year oil field exp by Sep 2012!! Just saying... I cannot wait to get started!!

I agree. That's sort of where I'm at right now. Ideally, I want to jump right in with some big company making great money, but the opportunities seem somewhat limited for a newb like myself. Getting experience anywhere in the oil fields should hopefully prove to be a game changer that opens some doors.

Yes in 2 years they have exploded in drivers. Though during my research they started filing for corp papers back in 2005. I find that a trend with many of the companies that came over from Montana. I think they knew ahead of time there was a good chance of it being opened.
Well I'm sure I will be down in Texas in a few weeks here man. My cousin lives in Arlington she moved from up here and its just me and my family now here. She want me to come down a couple weeks and stay with her during my search. Its about 5hrs away from Odessa midland area. So I will get a room when I get out there for a few days in Odessa most likely.
I will be down there by Nov 11TH I will have passed my test by then and headed out. Ill start making calls the day I pass my CDL Test. Strike while the Iron is Still hot is my model. -
Yes and i believe Taylor is one of them and you can run till the wheels fall off.
