Good Evening:
I have read many of the threads/posts/replies here about CRST. If I were just getting into the industry today, I will admit that I would possibly buy into the negative things said and not get started, but I am not new. and I know better.
I am passionate about my life in trucking and my career at CRST. Like anything in life, nothing is perfect and there is no perfect company anywhere whether it is in trucking or some other industry. How many people do you know that are unhappy with their careers? how many do you know that are totally, 100% happy?
Lets look at the basic deal at CRST, and I mean pull it apart. First, you get .22 cents per mile to start. No one makes any qualms about what you get per mile. You get $50.00 per day while your in your 28 day cycle, again, no one pulls any punches.
No one tells you that you'll get into a brand new truck and no one ever says, hey new driver, your guaranteed to run 5000 to 6000 miles a week and no one ever says to you, hey man, your truck is never going to break down. You are promised a paycheck every Thursday while in training, once you clear orientation.
Next, you are told that CRST is going to pay for your schooling. If they get a chunk of cash from a Government Program, who the hell really cares??? does it make you or break you? stop worrying about what the company gets and start worrying about yourself.
Next, you are told, that if you stay 8 months, you owe the company zero dollars of the cost of training. If you leave or are fired due to your own actions, you owe the company the money.
YOU SIGNED THE AGREEMENTS, NO ONE HELD A GUN TO YOUR HEAD AND NO ONE SAID CRST IS THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN AND NO ONE EVER SAID CRST IS THE PERFECT COMPANY.
If you have or had that perception, than that is on you. Own it and stop whining about it.
If you want to bash the company, go ahead. If you want to run away and look elsewhere, here are your choices: England Trucking, FFE, Stevens Transport, Wil-Trans, Prime, Central Refrigerated Transport.
See folks, CRST is not the only game in town. If your new at CRST and you don't like it here and it is so bad, get the hell out!!! leave!!! certainly your sanity is worth something and if your so sure that other companies are waiting for you and you can make so much more money, than you should have no worries about being able to pay back CRST, right???
If it is so bad here at CRST and you stay, that makes you a stupid for staying somewhere you don't like. Smart people don't stay somewhere that makes them unhappy.
I have been here 13 years. Don't you think if it were so bad, I would go elsewhere or that hundreds of other drivers at CRST would be jumping ship? If your only in the industry 90 days, sorry to say but you don't know enough about how to evaluate a trucking company.
Get your head out of your rear end and start thinking straight. You chose CRST. You asked for a job and they gave you one. They didn't come knocking on your front door.
Trucking is not for everyone. if your afraid of hard work, you will never make it in this industry and perhaps you should go work in retail or stock shelves somewhere.![]()

and then you have those of us who see CRST as it is, a CDL Mill. They train people with the sole intention of exploiting them at a pathetic wage and then spitting them out. Now you have 500 drivers knocking on your door looking for work. Why would a small company pay a good wage when the world is full of drivers with just enough experience to safely and efficiently deliver freight? They cant pay a good wage and stay in business thanks to this saturation of drivers.
I'm glad you are happy but don't take it personal when I and others feed the flames of threads that keep people away from companies like this. Were mad and we have a right to be because like you we have a passion for this job. We also know that drivers who started this job in the 1970's were paid the equivalent 70 to 80 thousand per year within 2 or 3 years of driving.
Now we got bozo's LIVING in their trucks and not even getting rich for their sacrifices.Erick chapel and gsmith2332 Thank this. -
hey long road... YOU MAD BRO?! CRST getting paid by the tax payers to hire felons is not cool in my book. Pressures of life > than having a gun to my head. Some people take the job knowing their house is about to get foreclosed on, desperation is quite common in this economy.
In my honest opinion it's looking like legalized slavery in this job market, sure you don't HAVE to have a job... but do you want to be able to eat? better take that min wage job that requires 2years exp and a college degree then! You make it sound so easy like jobs are so easy to come by. You wouldn't know because you've been employed for what looks like 23 years strait? last time you were looking was about 1987.. .times have changed people are tired of getting abused by employers god forbid they complain about it on a forum -
I never said one time that jobs are easy to come by, never once??? I don't ever pass blame on anyone for being less than happy, if you are and it is truly justified, than so be it.
However, you have people coming here and talking crap about things they know nothing about, such as the guy or gal who said you get paid .11 a mile.
I think I have been nothing but real in the things I have said. I am not about stringing people along. Have I trained people at this company? sure have. have I trained at England? sure have and many of those people are still here.
I am a realist. If your unhappy somewhere, leave, it's that simple, just take your stuff off a truck and move on.
What makes me mad is when people talk about how unhappy they are about the money they make, that they were promised this and that and aren't getting it yet they do nothing and say nothing to anyone who has the power to help them. Now if they do speak up and get nowhere, than something outside of themselves is at fault.
If your not speaking up and doing something about issues, than that's on you. I would hope that your like me in that you believe we all are responsible for what happens to us at some point in time. That there is no free lunch in america.
.22 cents a mile at 3000 miles a week is what? it is $660.00 a week. That is 429 miles per day for 7 days. If a trucker cannot drive 429 miles per day each day, something is very wrong with their ability to drive or it is a mechanical issue that needs to be fixed. There are not a whole lot of jobs paying $660.00 a week and there are many executives who don't even make that. There are people who own a McDonalds and can't pay themselves $660.00 a week. People fixate on .22 cents a mile and fail to realize it actually adds up.
If this company started people at .34 cents a mile, no one would say boo about anythiong, so you can't make anyone happy I guess.
Look if you truly have issues that are worth leaving for, than go, get out. However, know that there is going to be issues anywhere you go. Again, there is no perfect job.Last edited: Aug 5, 2011

lol a 660 paycheck divided by 2 (CRST is mostly team) is close to a min wage part time job paycheck, for being away weeks at a time working well past a standard 8 hour day driving a serious piece of equipment, your right man no problems there.. don't know why everyone is complainin!
660 divided by 2, divided by the hours away from home = I won't work at that place and CRST will be fine and so will i. We clearly disagree. I believe most employers horse#### workers, never ending boom in population, companys outsourcing jobs, the 2008 crash, rising gas prices and prices in general... thinking about this makes me sick. i dont mean to argue with you, just know people come here telling their experience with a company... CRST happens to be alot more negative than positive and that's not always the workers fault, its the employers fault.
Read Gordon trucking and you wont see so many negative post's. -
Will you get 6000 miles a week at CRST? Sometimes...I am on my 2nd go around with them with a combined total of just over a year with them. I routinely get 5500 miles...topping out at 7000 miles once. Then again, I am always on time, never really complain, and am generally a good team player...some may call it stupid or being taken advantage of...I say look at my miles and I think its worth it.
The .22 a mile thing? Well considering you paid nothing for school, I think you need to just grin and bear it...and oh yeah..its for only 3 months...then they bump you a couple pennies...then after 6 months you are up to .30 and by a year you are up to .34. If you can't live on $500 a week for 6 months then you probably shouldn't have got into trucking anyway..If you can't live on $800-1000 a week after a year then you probably need to go get a degree and wear a suit to work. -
Either your suffering from too much diesel fumes in your head or you are just plain misinformed.
I don't think I minced words. I think I was pretty clear on what I said. 6000 miles divided by two is obviously 3000. 3000 X's .22 is $660.00.
If you can't comprehend that than you really have issues. -

The only thing at this point, that I have to say is this: My husband has worked his ### off to find work for 3 years and has finally gotten his CDL. CRST is willing ot hire him. After him not working for that long and me being out of work of almost 2 years myself, and I having a degree and still not being able to find anything, while raising 3 children and still maintaining a marriage,we are thanking God for an opportunity for my husband to finally being able to go to work. Yes I know the hours are long, the pay is not great at first and our family will have to sacrifice, but it will be worth it. So far the hiring staff have been so nice and helpful, answering any concerns I have had as a spouse, and he has had as a non-experienced driver. Sometimes I think that, even though a company is not always perfect, you need to be thankful... no, grateful to have a job right now at all.
Stevejun1986 Thanks this.
