I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. I am an EMT and have been for the last 6 years. Got burned out and tired of the drain on my emotions.
Anyways. I am starting school in North Little rock on Halloween with Driver Soultions. Yes I have read the good and bad on them but I see it for most of the schools. I am pre approved with USA, Yea I know I read the good and bad there too. I have a couple real good friends that have been driving for years. Benn picking their brains for a few weeks now. I know I have a lot to learn but am wiiling and ready. One is even giving me his igloo electric cooler and lunchbox stove. Told me to eat out of Walmart not truck stops, lol. Cant beat free. Every one of them have said to call anytime I have questions. Nice to know I have some support there. I have no wife or kids, big help for the start of this. I am actually moving out of my apartment and storing my stuff. No need to pay rent when I wont be home but a few days a month.
I have learned some things lurking on this forum and must say out of all the trucking forums I have found so far this one seems the most active and largest.
Wish me luck.

Just passed my CDL test. Barely but I passed. I got nervous, made a small mistake, and it escalated. But I passed. I'll be starting my job soon.

Congratulations! I`m at the point where I`m looking for a school...

i have now been driving for 8 months.
And I think there is a gut check after about a month of driving.
after you get your license, and finish training, you will have not been home in a few months. And you start getting home sick.
Then you are thrust out into trucking. And you have to overcome that home sickness, and get used to the life.
I was so close to quitting in the first few months. -
You are correct Bowman. I think I have a slight advantage in that aspect though. I am an EMT and was gone from home 4 days every week anyways. I worked 60 miles from home. I had a crappy bed and never ate at regular times. I was up at all hours. Drove constantly. I sometimes went 2-3 days with no sleep. I am glad I'll get to sleep somewhat regularly without fear of emergency tones going off 20 minutes after I go to sleep every night. I am single with no kids and a very supportive family and friend base. I actually gave up my apartment and have no place of my own right now. A few less bills this way. I'll stay with friends when I'm home.
Good luck to all. -
now, i would almost rather sleep in my truck, than at home.
Sleeping at home almost feels weird now, because i only do it 1 or 2 nights out of 7 now.
