The cost of tuition is somewhat high. You will be in a 10 speed transmission International rig everyday for around 1 to 2 hours a day on the road (1 on 1 training), 4-5 hours you will have range time to practice the backing exercises. Class room work every morning. The one issue is, you train only to pass the Minnesota CDL road test. You will take the test in one of their trucks with a 28 foot trailer. I felt somewhat over trained when I took the CDL test. But found out when I went to work that I could of use more training with a 53 foot trailer. They did have one to practice with but, why practice when your not testing with it!
We got to talk to about 8 different company reps. I went to work with one of those companies.
After leaving, I felt like I was ready to drive, then found myself looking at a blind side back with a 53 foot trailer 90 degrees blind side. No cones here. But I had an idea how to do it and that got me through it.
So in the end I would recommend Century College in Afton, MN. But if you go, when the time comes available to practice with the 53 foot trailer, do it.![]()

Still,I have 2 questions;-Why oh why don't they train the students always in a 53ft er,and do you know if they still have a driving course at Dakota Co Vo-Tech? I see you live in St Paul.... -
I have my Class A cdl already, but it has been a long time since i drove one. Does Century College have refresher training?

yes they do. When I was in there, we had a guy come in 2 weeks after we started and he went about 2 weeks then he left to test.

I believe Dakota ended their CDL training, don't quote me on this. They do offer shop courses on 4-wheelers, rigs, and railroad. I really do not know why they do not train more on the 53'. We had the option on working with the 53' about the 3rd week in. The instructors were happy to help with the students on backing with the 53' trailer. But Century had a strong background with their students obtaining their CDL's, testing with a 28' trailer.

my apologies in my responses. OTR, no computer in the rigs as of yet. Have to wait for resets at home. Sorry. Once my current POS phone's 2-yr is up, on to a web phone i go. Not sure where to go, blackberry or I phone.
