I was an air Traffic Controller in the navy for 11 years, got out in 2003, and went into the FAA. Couldnt stand living in Chicago, so left and started a Landscaping company, which did great up till last year. Did a huge commercial job for a city, and the general contractor didnt pay us our 175k that we signed the contract for. Sold life insurance policies, Mutual Funds, and just about everything else we had just to stay afloat. Currently suing the General. And the economy sucks, so had to do somthing that wasnt entirely economy driven, before we loose everything else we have. So here I am, excited to start down the new path in my life.

Retail management. People started to irritate me constantly and it got very difficult to maintain a friendly attitude when someone's complaining about being over-charged for their 50 cent can of mushrooms that they have a coupon for 10 cents off and they want their 10 cents!

Now I'm in trucking, where most of the time my customers (the shipper or receiver) doesn't irritate me as much, aside from the once in awhile security guard.

Sure other people on the road irritate me but if you wait it out they will all go past you and hurry off to whatever they consider to be really important that they must get to right now.

I was a parts clerk working in the maintenance shop at Flowers Bakery of Montgomery. It was an office job where I was also cross-trained to work two other positions, but only got paid for my main position. I couldn't complain though, I was making $16.47/HR when I left for trucking. I'll be heading to Prime Inc's orientation tomorrow by bus. Trucking is what I've always wanted to do. Never being in the same place day-in day-out is an adventure to me. I've always liked to travel.

I worked a series of typical "under the table" jobs after high school. Landscaping, carpentry, etc. Decided I wanted to drive trucks in the late 90's and called Schneider only to be told I needed a solid three years of good work history before they would train me. I then went to work for a locksmith doing residential and commercial installation, minor safe work, re-keying, and the occasional lock out. It was interesting work. I waited about 33 months and called Schneider in December of 2000 and said "well I almost have that three years of stable work history now" They said see you in January. Trucking has been real good to me, minus the time I wasted at Knight. Been at it for 10 years now and am looking forward to the next 20 years. After that I think I will be worn out. I own a small house on 20 acres and nothing else. Should be able to call it quits someday.

Ah, another controller. Did you work at Ohara or Midway? No way would I do that up north. A level 4 was enough for me.

I was one of the replacement controllers after the strike back in the 80's. I worked at ORL and PBI.

You were enroute. I wish I done that or flight service. I'd probably still be there. I kind of got black balled when I broke up with my girlfriend. Her dad was high up in the FAA. But I did enjoy it.

You could of got a transfer.
