I can't give you a answer for what shape your truck will be in when you get it, as I am no longer with them. I will say this though, I started with USA back in 2000 when they had there school in West Memphis behind the dog track. When I went solo I was sent from Van Buren to Charlotte (via the greydog) to recover a '95 flat top Freightliner, it was a mess, I have never seen such a pigsty, piss jugs, trash you name it and it stunk to high hell. I had to drive with the windows down, I mean it was rotten.
I cleaned the truck up and went to Monroe, NC. to grab my first load to head to Boston. Clutch went out within 200 miles, lost the load and was down for a week. Once the truck was fixed they got me a load to the Vandalia yard and swapped me out for a almost new Columbia. Back then I think the policy was first 6 months in a junker then upgrade, I guess I got lucky. USA was a good company when I was with them (2000-2004). I did my job and got good miles and had very few complaints about my DM.
Boy they sure did love to run me up to Jay, ME. to the papermill all the time, in the winter of course...![]()

I have read many complaints about the service dept . Is it due to management in that dept or does USA just don,t want to spend the money to keep the trucks on the road ? Thanks to all that have responded any and all responses are appreciated.

The maintenance problem is kind of because the terminals are understaffed for the volume of trucks coming in. That and some of the management of the shops are lazy, while some actually care and try to get trucks in and out. USA also doesn't allow overtime for the shop mechanics, unless prior approval which is usually denied anyways.

Stuff happens. My 9400 Tranny went out. They towed it and the empty trailer. When they realized it would take a long time to fix it, they sent me to Mechanicsburg,PA. There I picked up a 09 Cascadia. I like the truck. The turbo went out. Everything must require some type of maintenance at one time or another. I have learned to somewhat deal with it. It runs good now. Now my attention goes to the Qualcom. Sometimes it just goes blank. I can't communicate with dispatch. But it will be fixed soon Im sure. Probably at the next PM.

Klatu, same kind of thing sort of happened to me. Old 9400 died, got a newer prostar and nothing but problems so far, but with all the negatives I love driving it. I think the first mistake was letting Vandalia touch the truck lol.

What year or most of the trucks at USA

I still see some 2007 9400i's on the road (not as many as before). So 2008+ now for the most part.

I would think with all the new Freightliners the company has bought the last 2 years this average would be higher. I see a lot of the newer Prostars too. I agree on the 9400's you don't see as many now.

One good thing I'll actually say about the 9400's: even being governed as low as they were, those ######## could pull weight up a grade like nobody's business. I've even passed some o/o tractors on steep routes like I-77, I-64 and I-79. These new Freightliners don't seem to do it quite like that but, if you drive them properly, the Detroit Diesels are very kind on your fuel mileage. They ride like Cadillacs, too.
