Lucky you. Until I can learn enough French to function, it's kinda hard living here sometimes.

Well, I made another trip down to Houston and here is my experience:
I stopped in a truck stop and saw a driver had his hood up and was digging around under the hood. I walked over to him and asked if he needed a hand with anything or if he was just doing a pre-trip. His reply was "even if I needed help, I doubt someone like you could help me". Okay buddy, I have a truck loaded with tools and a strong mechanical background but I just walked away.
I pulled into another truck stop that had a long line of trucks waiting for the pump. Since I was just parking, I drove around them. Someone got on the radio to say they were waiting in line for the pumps. I got on and told them I'm not cutting in front of anyone....just passing by so I can get to a parking spot. A few of them proceeded to talk about how I sounded like an idiot on the radio.....F'in Canadian, etc.
In Houston I missed my turn (being a new driver and not agressive enough for houston yet) and so I asked on the radio what the best way to get back on track would be. One guy was trying to help but the others kept stepping over him by singing a song, going "la la la la la" or keying their mics. I tried a few times. Finally I waited a few minutes and then got on with my best texan supertrucker accent and got the help I needed. After they helped me I thanked them in my normal speech and wished them a merry christmas. There was dead silence after that. LOL
Also, I was slowing down for a parking area in Hearne Texas (the big dirt lot accross from the cafe). I had my signal on, and some supertrucker passes by me and says "the speed limit is 40mph, not 40 kilometers you ##### Canadian, so move your A__." He went on some more about Canadians but I couldn't pick up the rest of what he was saying.
I was leaving the truck stop in Amarillo and wished everyone a merry christmas. I then got the whole "stupid canadian" speech, and how they'll have fun with my mom, etc.
I passed 5 broken down trucks on the side of the road. I asked if they needed help or needed me to make a phone call for them. 3 of them didn't reply (probably had their radio turned off). 1 thanked me but said it was all looked after. The other guy said "don't you think I carry a cell phone with me?....##### idiot"
If you are an ignorant prick, then I sure as hell hope you get yours one day. Every time I pass a broken down texas truck I'll wonder if it was one of them. LOL. It's just brutal. I think I'm being nice for trying to offer help all the time but I'm really starting to think its better to just look out for number 1.johnday Thanks this. -
I know just what you're saying. It isn't just Texas though. I'm from Michigan, and I get it all the time as well. Canadian and Northern Michigan is the same language for the most part, eh. I've even had drivers from the same company ask me how I got hired. They thought I was Canadian. I had to tell them that are worse things I could be called, and likely closer to the truth as well. LOL
It's hard for me, not to let it bother me. I keep trying to look past the ignorance, sometimes it works, sometimes not.
PT Barnum was credited with a saying, "There's a fool born every minute". Usually I just think that and either walk or drive away shaking my head in disbelief.
Tell ya what, if we were to ever meet in the real world, I'd share my dinner table with ya!!
Happy Christmas, and have a Mary for New Years everyone.

Rat Fink, sorry about your experience in The lone star

I am from Texas and i assure you, i am nowhere near the level of those pricks you speak of. Believe it or not, i actually take an interest for people from Canada as they are from a place that for me is outside this world. Sucks when in this industry so many drivers act like toddlers at truck stops. I am only 19 but i am more mature than most drivers with that "i have 30 yrs driving and you suck" type of attidude. Many make fun of ANY driver, Canadian or US, when they do something that is correct, like going around the pumps when they are chock full of trucks. It really pisses me off when i see drivers picking on other rookies, like myself, having trouble backing into a spot. If killing was legal, i guarantee many would not be here
. But There is good and bad people everywhere right?
