What the h*ll is it with some of the drivers that come into a truck stop and lay on the air horn and wake everyone up? I was parked way out of the way of any trucks comming into the entrance (along side two other trucks) also out of the way. You could have driven 5 trains at the same time through the width of the space between the building and my truck (ma and pa place with 30 truck spaces). Anyhow, I just happend to be in my driver seat with all lights of......Then comes in a 18 whlr. and lays on the air horn. I then asked why he did that? No answer from him....I truly wanted to go over to his truck and smack the p*ss out of him or at least fire a cream filled doughnut off of his window. I didn't do either because I know better than to act on my first instincts with folks I don't know anything about. There have been other times that I've heard or saw drivers do this and I'd have to say there's nothing out there (even 4 wheelers) that make me as mad as when this happens......especially when I'm just in a truck stop to get a 3 or 4 hour nights rest! Bottom Line.....these jerks choose to act the way that they do because they don't know anything about common consideration for anyone else except for themselves............you know....it's different when it happens to them.
I try to be very careful where I park and ask myself "what could go wrong if I park here?" but you'll always have that one oversensitive jerk that pulls in at 3 am and has to go out of his way to wake everyone up with the horn to make sure everyone knows he's mad about something that is really nothing (I guess it's just to difficult to drive by, find a spot, and lay down without waking up the rest of us). Anyone else?

No story like that man, but I feel ya. Why couldn't he just get on the radio and maybe find an ear that might listen to him vent?

Because that makes sense, and is what decent people would do.
A side note, I used to drive a Volvo, in which the air horn works by pressing the air bag (center of the steering wheel, like a car). Every now and then, (especially early in the morning) while working on my logbook, I would press on it too hard and start to sound the horn. Scared the piss out of me everytime, and pissed a few other drivers off too.
So I started doing my logbook in the bunk.

    Lesson learned!

i was in the bunk reading at a crowded pilot about midnight one night when a swifty laid on his horn for about 15 seconds straight. i pickedup the CB and asked what the #### was going on. come to find out he had turned down an isle only to find a heartland express truck parked along the curb blocking any trucks from getting around that corner not to mention the trucks parked perpendicular to him that wouldn't have been able to get out. i guess he was too much of a wuss to go bang on the sleeper of the truck and tell him to move. he felt it necessary to wake up a dozen sleeping truckers!

I know a lot of trucking schools teach you to blow you air horn before you back up. It's a long shot but that may be the reason for him blowing the horn.
I don't think teaching them that is a bad idea, but not in a truck stop.

Somebody needs to teach these fools how to park. I rolled thru a rest stop the other nite and it was all I could do to get through. I had about an inch on each side trying to weave thru the non parking fools.:biggrin_25510:

Honking a horn in a truckstop at 3am is no different from someone playing their music at excessive volumes in a neighbourhood at 3am. It shows a total lack of respect for their fellow human beings and demonstrates a narcissistic attitude.
I have a neighbour who plays his music so loud it wakes me at 3am. When I bang on his door, he doesnt hear me. So I rang the buzzer to his condo, and when he answered he said that I should probably be using ear plugs as he can barely hear his music. Hows that for rude and inconsiderate?

yes the mentality of a lot of people now have changed to
    "its all about me"

We see it driving all the time (its my road get off my road attitude)

I want to really hear (and feel) my music so you suffer...

And yes I have to agree that some people just have no concept of courtesy while in truck stops.. You should hear the CB light up when I pull in with my heavy duty tow truck... I even park and get out to go inside and have some people come up and tell me that "such and such driver parked there for a few minutes in the fire lane or on the fuel islands and will be back in a while, PLEASE DO NOT TOW HIM, he's my freind...

Heck I have to follow the same rules you have regarding hours of service, and of course my body needs breaks also just like you do..

And it's just going to get worse out there...

I am kind of glad that I live in the country, but it does have its draw backs at times.... Darn cows get loud at times early in the morning, but funny thing is that also usually means that one is out and wants back... ( I do not own then but have a key for the gate to put them back in, guess cutting the chain a few times was one way to get one)

Ya ...this guy rolled in the ma and pa truck stop which was a buger place with about 20 parkings spots. Me and 2 other trucks parked back 100 feet from the enterance. Also, ther was about 75 feet from my truck to the building. So there was 75 feet of width to drive trucks through between my parked truck and the hamburger place. Aparently not enough for this guy in a late 80's Kenworth pulling a covered wagon.....Then the smart ##* lays on the air horn....probably woke half the place up. The things I'd like to do to someone like that would put me in the clink for a long time!
