Hello I'm from Oregon and I am new to this site and I am getting ready to go to Swift Academy in Lewiston, Id. I am somewhat familiar with trucking my father in law is a retired trucker and I had went on the road with him numerous times even had my permit once and was learning how to drive when life through some unexpected things my way and changed that option ! Anyway like I said I am getting ready to with Swift and I would like some feedback from anybody that attended the Lewiston school. Any comments appreciated, well most anyway ! Lol

I did not go to the Lewiston School but did go through another one of Swift's facilities. If it works the same as the others the first two weeks is really a weeding out phase. You will be working on backing, pre-trip, and logs for the most part. The next two weeks with your road trainer is to prepare you for your CDL test. The final 240hrs BTW gets you to be able to get from point A to B and how to operate in a live environment. This is a stand on your own two feet industry and alot of what you will need to really do well and be a safe driver will need to come from you. Ask alot of questions and try to keep a training diary for sure when you get to the final phase. Take the help from those willing to give it and grow a thick skin if you are going to drive a Swift truck. It helps to have a sense of humor. Don't take all of the ribbing personal. Keep your CSA score low, actually do a pre-trip on your truck and never "guess" when you are driving. Stay safe and stay positive and in a year or so your options will be more open.

Welcome to the forum, i'm new here too :)

I'm sure they dont make you do your CDL at any school after one day, i know i've read a lot of horror stories when i was doing research about where to get my CDL but that one would be the worst one to believe! hehe :)

But like i said, i'm a newbie at all of this so im sure everyone else knows a lot more than i do.

Good luck and keep us posted :)

Welcome from another new to the site and looking into the industry.

So much info, make my head want to explode...almost reminds me of when I decided to join the Army.
