This thread needs to be moved to the bad company section since that is where Marten belongs.

I was for 2 years and left in April 2010. Jeez where do I start?

    1. When I started they asked you if you wanted to be paid per diem but when they could not talk drivers into it they decided to force everybody onto it and they charge you 3 cents a mile for an administrative fee. So whatever your starting rate will be just take 3 cents off it for that BS fee.

    2. When I started they guaranteed that you would get home for hometime or they would pay you $50 for every day you got home late. They did away with that and after that drivers rarely got home on time and I knew drivers that got home as much as a month late. I even know of one driver who missed his mothers funeral because they did not get him home.

    3. They used to be an over the road reefer company where drivers got a lot of good long distance loads. That is no longer the case. If they can put a load on a train they do it now because it is cheaper for them than running it by truck. I would have weeks where I was not getting any miles but yet I would pick up a load in Atlanta that was going to California and take it to a rail yard and send it to Cali on the train and make next to nothing doing it. Trust me it sucks in that case to not be getting miles but give up a Cali load like that to a train.

    4. Trust me if you have ever had a company treat you poorly you have not seen anything yet.

    5. Expect to spend days waiting for a PM or something as simple as replacing a tire. I am not kidding. I once waited 4 days for an APU service and they would not dispatch me until it got done. It was spring and I had only used it 21 hours since the last APU service but they have to be done after so many months. I don't run the APU in the winter I only run the bunk heater.

If this isn't enough reasons I can give you more but these would be enough to make me run from any company. I worked for Swift also and Swift was way better than Marten is.

OK you want enlightenment here goes. Have been with Marten coming up on 8 years. Have they all been great years? Not a chance in hell, there's been ups & downs...great ones & ones where I've been thisclose to quitting. It's going to be pretty much like any carrier our size and bigger that are out there...gonna be some times you get all your questions/problems dealt with quickly and smoothly; & there are going to be times you wonder out loud if there is a functioning brain cell to divide amongst all of them working in the office. The end of the day it's gonna depend on your relationship with your Fleet Manager. Are you a driver who's going to tend to your business and communicate well or are you gonna be a driver who expects your FM to read your mind & get pissy when you don't get everything you ask for. The problems by and large are the same ones you're gonna find anywhere you go...that's the industry we work in. Basically you pick up & deliver on time and safely, take care of their equipment the way they want you to, and communicate when there are issues you'll find yourself doing OK.

and the only reason they put apu's on the trucks was they made money on it between state and federal money.i wrote up the fact my speedometor was broke, and that i was running full throttle, and they said if it wasn't dot reportable, they wouldn't fix it.the only companies with worse reputations are cr england and crst.

This dude is right about the shop, sounds like it hasn't changed since I worked there in 1995.
