That is part of the reason why I decided to move back to Delaware even though I wanted to live in MA. It is a very complex and also a civil service state, meaning the regulations are completely screwed.

Glad I have a DE licence, too bad my original state has such harsh CDL regs.

P.S. Carabello720, good luck with your training.

    Carabello720 Thanks this.

Really this brings up an important issue . Suppose you have "residence" and a CDL from your carrier's state when you actually live in another state. What if you have home time and are stopped for a traffic violation while driving your POV ? What will the officer's reaction be to you having a CDL in another state other than the state you live in?
Most states require you to be licensed in the state if you live there.

Dont get pulled over... There is a period of time for you to switch it over. I believe its 30 days. Prime has been doing this for awhile so, it must be legal. My license transfered with no problems.

    McBjork Thanks this.

Well I don't train, but my understanding is that the FMs try to get you routed on a load back to your state of residence ASAP once the trainee has his/her CDL. I'd think an issue with a traffic stop would fall under the grace period that a person has to transfer their license when moving into a state. But to the specific point here, if you're on hometime, why wouldn't you have already visited the drivers license office to take care of it?

    McBjork Thanks this.

Maybe hometime is a weekend when the DMV is closed. Grace period ? Some cops would look at the POV registration date. More than 30 days old ? No grace period.MA is really tough on licenses. Before CDL's out of state workers driving for a MA trucking company had to have a MA license.

My son just went thru this, and is actually now in trainning for tanker..
When he first got his CDL prime routed him back to change it over, he tried, and failed due to this 2 year clause..
He called prime, they said he could be routed back with his trainer to make the CDL test appt...but he just decided to keep his MO cdl with the hotel as his address, he is still paying ma taxes and keeping residence in ma.
at no time did they ever say his trainer had to be from ma, and if you already have a CDL from another state, why would you still have a trainer anyway??? I believe the trainer clause is for the initial test to get your CDL.. good luck with prime, my son loves it.. and when I retire from the Airlines in a few years, I am going to go to prime myself!!...

When you take the MA skills test you have to have a driver with a MA CDL with you .

Ever driven in MA ? I have known people ticketed for having a trailer hitch ball obscuring a license plate .
