Ask THEM about the vacations at the interview. Most companies will allow you to take them, just unpaid. As for steel toes, ask, but I will say that you might want to really consider wearing them if they tell you it up to all. Those cases do hurt when you drop them on your foot. Been there many times and I am glad I wear steel toes.

 

My bf works for Sygma in PA. Jeans are allowed, thats all he wears. Do get a generous clothing allowance every year. He has so many Sygma t shirts its crazy! They have alot of other options besides tee's and sweatshirts though. Vacation time is tough. They may give you it so you will work for them, but afterwards you have to bid on vacation and its almost impossible to get the weeks you want. You have to be very flexible to work at Sygma. Even when you get your own route the hours can vary alot depending on extra stores, backhauls, and time delays with trucks getting loaded etc. He complained alot his first year, but being on the extra board would be stressful for anyone. He's been there almost 3 years now and he is used to it. Sygma has provided us with so much. We never dreamed he would have a job making over 80,000 a year in his second year there. I know money isnt everything, but if you can make that much and more if you want, and see your family everyday, then why not.

 

How long does Sygma reach back to you after you applied for application?

 

I used to work for Sygma Harrisburg, Pa. You can wear pretty much whatever you want. They do give you the allowance so you can get t-shirts, button up shirts, sweatshirts, hats, shorts, etc. Alot of good stuff. You can wear shorts, jeans, cargo, bdu's or anything reasonable. Steel toes are a MUST. They give you a voucher for up to, I think it was, $75. You will have to deal with them for the vacation time. It's not that bad as some may say. I never went to extra board, I was on a training route with a trainer and when I was done with my time he left the route for something else and they put me on that run. I went out twice a week......Saturday around 9pm worked till around 6am, spent Sunday in a Holiday Inn Express. Left the hotel around 10pm delivered rest of stops till about 5-6am and headed back to Harrisburg. Was then home till Tuesday evening did the same routes (with the exception of one or two) then was home Thursday morning about 10am. Off then until Saturday night. Next bid I ran a single man local overnight run Sunday night from midnight till around 11am Monday. Then would go out again Wednesday around noon for a team route getting back about 10am Thursday. Would then go out team again Friday at noon back at noon Saturday. You weren't gone all that much you just have to deal with the overnights. I wouldn't do it again, based largely on the awesome local gig I have now but I would tell people to do this as a first job before I'd tell them to go to a BF like Swift, CRE, or any of those.

They didn't accept me. I thought they hired student driver and i got email say try to re apply in the future. O well, Im going with Watkins& shepherd to get some experienced

Sygma does hire with no CDL. In Pa, Sygma Harrisburg will hire you as a driver helper till they get you scheduled for school. Then they send you to Lebanon County Career School/Sage in Lebanon, Pa. Not sure why they told you "no" down there.

 

Typically you need 6mo-1yr for any big foodservice driver job unless your working dock then they can train you in-house. Might be different in some places but that's what I understand from when I worked at Foodservice.
