As a ex CDL tester, you are NOT to create a problem like that, in fact the routes used should be standard routes that they are familiar with.
They can have more than 1 route but can not deviate from any scorable turns unless the road is closed for some reason.
I personally think the state head testing officer needs to be informed what happened,
Anyone feel they've been tricked on their road test?

I'd go to the I.G.
Here is an example of what the IG does........

I think the moral of the story is once you are in the driver seat, you accept 100% responsibility, even in testing or training. He was testing your knowledge in an odd way, which you failed. But like SLC says, the idea is not to trick, but test your knowledge on a known, safe, predetermined truck route. He could of simply asked you if it was okay to drive on there instead of giving you a command to do something wrong.
A common one is to let a driver drive under a bridge or overpass, then ask them the clearance after it. That one gets many. But it's a good learning tool because you won't miss another. I guarantee you will never attempt to get on a parkway again!
So what he did will have a positive effect in the long run. I think you deserve a retest and the testers methods reviewed. He's been on the job too long or something.

as far as i know they can't ask you to do something that would get you a ticket or worse in real life situations. friend of mine got a fail for NOT doing something the examiner told him to do. (emergency stop in the MIDDLE of the roadway instead of the shoulder) he went to the examiner's boss in Oklahoma City at DPS headquarters and got the fail overturned. The examiner from what I gather was also reprimanded.

That's not a trick, or at least it wasn't when I took my CDL test. You could pre-trip one side of the truck, preferably the drivers side, get to the end, and then say I would do the exact same thing on the other side. It counted as an entire pre-trip with one caveat....if you missed one or more items on the side you checked, you would be docked for missing them on the side you didn't as well. Miss enough and guess what? Fail.
-
My pre-trip was very simular...we still had to point and name the part, and say "we check the (name here) the same as other side" as long as we got all the points on the first side, it counted for both. If we missed one part, we lose 2 points...one for each side.
For the record, I only lost 3 points...forgot the front shocks, and I forgot to take the keys out of the truck to begin with...something I'll never forget to do again
p.s. they need a facepalm smiley

I understand that, the problem was that in MN you must check all the lights on your test. Not just one side. Very misleading. That and MN gives you a checklist, so its pretty #### hard to miss something on the pre-trip. It was the examiners wording, luckily like I said it was not enough to fail because there was only 2 lights missed. Checked the front and rear fully as well as the drivers side.

On the driving portion I was deducted one point for taking a left turn from the inside turn lane. (Double left turn lanes.) But in my defense there was a car stalled in the lane I would have turned into had I used the proper lane. I probably could have argued the point but whether it was legal or not I am not going to endanger someones life to make a proper turn.

That's complete and total BS. I'm so sorry that happened to you, and that you have to pay FOUR HUNDRED FREAKIN' DOLLARS to take the bus out again. I seriously hope something can be done to help your situation.
Any chance there's cameras on the bus, and that they might have been running? God, it'd be so swell if they were and you could take that evidence in.
Good luck, and again, I'm sorry. Also, I will keep this story in mind for my CDL test, should some sort of shenanigans like this happen to me. -
I went to the DMV in my area to pay the fee for another test and asked there if this sounded right to them. The woman said no and gave me a number to report it. I called that number, and again the woman in that department also said the tester was not supposed to ask anyone to do anything illegal. She took down the information about the DMV bureau and the tester's number and is looking into it. She also said she would give me a test date this week instead of having to wait over a month with a different tester, but that doesn't help me much since I don't have the money to do it immediately. I will call back and follow up with her, but again, I don't think DMV is going to give me $400 so I can give a driving school that cash to use their vehicle for the test.
