Did it have the time it was made written on it???

Not sure about you, but breakfast for me is when I wake up. Not always 4am......usually more like 10-11am since I usually cant make deliveries till 9am, but then again I'm not running for miles either.

But I agree, truckstops are WAY overpriced. Especially the $10 for a lousy shower

I just got the best service I have received yet and that was at the Milan NM Petro. The guy informed me I can get a discount for my carrier which no other TA or Petro had told me about, just took more money than they had to. So I was able to upgrade to the 2nd tier oil change for less than the price of the 1st tier without discount. They greased the entire rig, pulled samples from the rears and transmission and showed it all to me. Oh and they took my keys and locked them up during the oil change too. They brought me the keys and showed me the oil dipstick and asked me to start the truck back up.These guys were 100% professionals.

From my limited experience The TAs I have dealt with most of the "mechanics" seem shady. But, everyone I have dealt with do a couple of things.
    1) have you witness them torque the oil drain plug in the oil pan.
    2) witness the oil level with the dipstick

The last time TA changed my oil, TA ontario ca west, they broke my dipstick tube. They replaced it when I pointed it out to them.

As another also hit on in a separate reply what about pretrip. You as the driver are required to check this. If you go to court I am sure their lawyer will point out that fact!

The Grease Monkey that I take my cars to has a new policy, before they start the engine, they check the oil twice, then have you come out, they pull the dipstick, show you that's full, clean it off, put it back in and pull it back out to make sure.
They started this a few months ago after one of the shops genaded the 6.7li in an SRT-8 Chrysler, $6,000 in repairs later, this is the new company policy. It's a pain, but that's why they do it.

Bottom line is that your truck is your responsibility. When your truck is getting repaired, FMCSA regs specifically state the driver needs to be on line 4. This means you need to be watching the mechanics work on the truck and not sitting in the drivers lounge. Thats where you screwed up, and thats where you'll lose the case. TA already gave you a payout to replace the engine. It's your fault you blew that money on something else and wrote the truck off as a loss.

The OP said that he wanted to be made whole, well he was. When he or whoever accepted the 23 grand settlement for the blown engine he was made whole. Under the law if one take a settlement he is make whole by said settlement and advacates any further claim.

Another thing why was he unemployed for 10 weeks? That is of his own doing. He could have been working for someone else while trying to get things settled. It sounds to me like he is a victim of his own doing.

Yup. Taking the settlement alone will throw the case in the garbage....... Where it belongs.

So the truck had a defective guage that "you" knew about but didn't fix and according to what you say the Volvo dealer told you could have been what caused it to happen? How does that make it all T/A's fault? I'm sorry but if you ask me you are just as responsible for this as they are. As the others have said I've always been asked to start the truck myself when my company had work done there, kind of helped that I always took the key with me after I pulled it into the shop.

Got a PM at the TA in Harborcreek, PA. Next morning, the oil and water filters were leaking like sieves. Had road service come out with a new oil filter, and got a new water filter later that night.

Ran through harborcreek the next week, and let the manager know what happened. He asked to see my receipts so he could reimburse me for all the charges. I explained I was a company driver, and the company had them all, and covered all the costs. He still made me out a gift certificate for $75 off my next service, which I thought was pretty nice. He explained that both of the failures were under warranty, and if it happened again, I could show the receipt at any TA or Petro shop, and they'd fix it free of charge.

Wonder what the hell I'm going to get done with $75 on my KW. Might cover the labor on a centramatic install...?

I've never had a good meal at a T.A. Ever.

Maybe eggs and bacon. Can't really screw that up.
