Good luck I have to say it is easier if you have a day or 2 to practice in the rig your taking your test in. My dad taught me how to drive in an older Kenworth then I ended up taking the road test in a pete 379 and it seemed WAY different.

I happen to have a day cab tractor and flatbed trailer for rent for that very purpose in Northern Illinois. I don't think I'm allowed to list my website, on this forum, which describes my program. But perhaps there is some other way to communicate.
SuperLiner Thanks this. -
Original thread is three years old.
I can tell you how it worked out for him though. He rented a truck to take his test. Spend lots of money on fuel practicing and taking his test. Got his license after the 8th try. Could never get a job because nowadays no one will hire you unless you attend a certified cdl mill!

Even though thread is over 2 years old and the OP has not been seen since then, The info on your available rental might help someone in the same boat who is near enough to you to make use of it.

I got my CDL similar, no "schooling." Right place, right time. Someone donated 69 international dump truck 2 stick tranny with gas engine and an equipment hauling trailer to the non profit I was working for.
I grew up operating equipment and moving trucks around the Farm, the nonprofit had me get my cdl so I could haul gravel to repair the three miles of driveway. When that project was done, they found others for me to do. Did that job for 3 years.
I had to do 240 hours out with a trainer when I got hired on with Swift. Adjusting to driving with A/C, one gear stick, and a longer trailer took time but I was better equipped than a fresh cdl graduate. -
Oh and the state test, one try with about an hour or two of practice.

I agree to that. It definitely adds to the nerves getting in a strange truck.
In school I only drove a cascadia, same with training. Then for the company road test, the full-time tester's truck was being serviced. I had to drive a beat up ole century.
After a year now I now there is not much difference. But back then it sure seemed like it!

I am in southern Illinois and would be interested in renting something similar to take the CDL test with. Thanks Randy -
Northern IL to southern IL is not much of a haul for trucking.... If you can not find something local OV1D might be an option if you can cover the fuel costs, etc.
Post more, to get over ten or something, and then you can PM Him/Her to get details for the costs.
