Right Now i have a steady job ... Mechanic /Technician working 10h shift driving to work 1h each way everyday ... i use to work 5 days a week with 10 h overtime but times change boss start to save $$$ so now i only work 4 days a week 10h/day. My insurance went from best one to one of the worst so i decide i will become truck driver :)

I went on couple roads trip with my friend ( working for CSX) and i think i like it . I know its not for me right now because of my experience but maybe in the future i will by my save $$$ and buy my own Truck and fallow his foot steps

I past all my writing test at the first time and with just permit in my hand i already applying for jobs. I try some small companies around me and all of them needs some experience :(. So i find my another buddy who pulling garbage from NY area to Baffulo Area. He is home everyday , doing same road everyday getting paid around 250 for each day. He got this job just after passing CDL driving test so i should be hire right away to. I think they will be teach me for 2 weeks without pay but i need to start somehow .

I will sing for 15 h driving school in my area so i can use company truck for road test ... i hope i going the right way i cant wait for my first driving lesson and i hope i doing everything right to become a Good and safe Truck driver !

It may be a good move for you but take care of the job you have now until you decide. Think long and hard before you jump into trucking. There will always be a need for mechanics, too and that will keep you in a better position to be home for your family.

Just be sure to research that new home before even taking the bus ticket! If it's not in here it's on another forum somewhere! That job you have just might pay better than half of the driving jobs out here!

I find it hard to believe that a driver would make more than a mechanic/technician.
Look for extra training in your field and work your way up.
There are very limited opportunities in driving and not much of a future for the industry (my opinion).

I would put a lot of serious thought into it before making the leap! Unless the local gig is a guarantee the chances of you staying out for long periods of time is pretty good. Would hate for you to spend all that time and money only to find out you have to go over the road to get experience. Its a very tough career and really takes its toll on marriages and families!

    Hey PolRob,
I go to Bayonne, NJ once in a while. Was there Thursday (be there Monday too),watched a guy pull out of the RPM warehouse gate with his landing gear down. He was looking in his mirror trying to figure out what the noise was :biggrin_25523:. Certainly you couldn't be any worse than someone like that once you have a fresh CDL. There are alot of companies around there too, check them out. Don't just settle for something you don't want. There are companies out there that will hire newbies, you just gotta knock on their doors. Good luck.
