i am not here to complain first off I just wanted to make a post about this for my own and others benefits.
I ran a load from Sumner WA. To Louisville KY loaded miles was something like 2250 ish when in reality it was closer to 2550. Because of the discrepancy in miles I was almost late to deliver as i actually did not have the time to do it legally. I had the hours to do it by the pre-plan but not by the we slash 10 to 15% off everything ideal swift works on.
Swift like a lot of other companies wants to believe it is a forced dispatch company and there are horrible consequences for abandoning your equipment and other such ideas you might have.I do not advise doing or thinking about it.
THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS POST IS " What trip's has swift ____ed You on"
What should other swifty's look out for.I m not saying its better to lose your job then drive 4 or more hours for free. All im saying is get your ammo here and use it to your advantage.
I know this is not the place but say no to cheap freight and don't get screwed by swifts wannabe imaginary pay plan.

I just happened on this..........I dont drive for Swift, but I can assure you, this happens at every(errr...most) company....and It is ridiculous and will never change. And I totally get the dispatch times....that is where they really get you. They dispatch you at say 45 mph based on the miles that they are paying you for, but in actuallity, you are being dispatched at 53 mph based on actual miles.....and for some reason, the people in the office dont understand that, when you say, that hey....I had to stop for a stoplight, so that took 5 minutes, I cant make it on time now.......Well, you should have planned your route better............right??
wowo6057 Thanks this. -
I had that where I had to go 100 miles and they were only gonna pay me for 40 (was empty miles) I #####ed about it and they have been close to the mark every time since then in the actual to paid miles

I total Agree it's BS and we all need to start making records of these miles we are getting screwed on and all the drivers after a year need to sue Swift probalem solved.
Rand McNally needs to shoved those miles up there ### there wrong always wrong.
I check all by miles by phone before I except loads now because a few months back I was late sent Mac 22 and it was because pp was wrong 150 more than pp stated that's what I put in mac22.
What's even more screwed up remember they made us agree on kios to the miles being off they admit to screwing. I know I drive a couple hundred miles extra a week usually unpaid I'm sick of it.
As for rejecting preplans you can reject my DM tells me if I don't want to do it reject it, I'm never forced to take a load but I take 99.9% very few I have turned down. I do know there are DMs that force you to take loads my friend has 1. Of those DMs -
Just an ill advised rant. SorryLast edited: May 20, 2012

Swift's miles have averaged 5% short for me, and that's after correcting for any OOR miles I may have gotten. It one of the things I find so enduring about Swift.

Note to newbies: when you are sent a preplan, add 10% to the miles listed and use that number for calculating whether or not you can be on time. You should have been taught that by your mentor, but I understand most mentors are worthless lumps of human waste who just want an extra logbook. If you add 10% to the miles and figure 50 mph, you should be OK unless you run into an extreme delay somewhere.
Crusty, fr8monkey, Winchester and 2 others Thank this. -
As a company driver my miles were acceptably close to accurate according to gps and pp. Now that I've gone o/o I've noticed huge discrepancies. I generally follow swifts directions since that is the route that they are using to figure paid miles. But since my status change their directions are skewed and I'm being paid less miles to actual miles compared to when I was a company driver. Has this happened with anyone else who went from company to o/o?

It sucks when the miles are inaccurate because among other things it skews our fuel economy numbers. They'll say you drove so many thousands of loaded miles in the last 13 weeks, bought so many thousand gallons of fuel to run those miles and your price per gallon average is so much. You may have driven closer to 30,000 miles in the past 13 weeks but only been paid 25,000 miles. The good news it lowers your tax base the bad news is the little money they paid you, feeds you but you have hardly any left over to pay the man.
