This question is regarding a person who would like to start a second career driving, but saw in the CA cdl handbook from the dmv that if you ever had 2 DUIs you can't get a cdl. Anybody know of anyone with experience with this? My guess would be that they really don't search your record that far back, but would like to know what states you know of that people have gotten a cdl when they had old DUIs. Thanks.
Can a person with 37 year old DUIs get a cdl?

Don't know about Cali, but in the rest of the country yes you can. What is your driving record for the last 10 years like? You might have to sell your self a little harder to get a job. Good work history would help.

Getting the CDL should be no problem "almost anywhere" if the DUI's are 37 years ago and your record has been clean since (no additional DUI'S). As far as getting work behind the wheel, I would think that they would not even appear on your MVR after all this time.

I would be stunned if they would disqualify someone who has 37 years of clean driving. The CDL program didn't even start till 1987 if I remember right. Most employers should also look past it. Good luck.

This question isn't about finding work at all. The CA dmv cdl "Handbook" has a chart in there that says if a person EVER has had 2 DUIs the are disqualified from obtaining a cdl. I'm doubting that info b/c I'm guessing that they just don't examine those records, but I could easily be wrong. Maybe the info is as pertinent to them as anything else. Stranger things happen in this once great state.
Also I would like to know what the other states are publishing regarding this issue, and if known experiences regarding this subject in any state could be related in a little detail. Thanks.
(I believe the person wanting a cdl had 3 DUIs, the latest being 37 years ago. After that, about a perfect driving record.) -
CDL is federal mandates. Not state.

. Move out of Cali and you should be all set. If those dwi charges were so long ago would they be grandfathered? I personally know 2 guys with 2 dwi charges that have cdls .

now seems reasonable to think that since IT IS IN the CA CDL handbook, saying that one CANNOT GET A CDL, if one person has 2, and here you (uh, person) has 3...??? then one person cannot get a CDL...
it'll be on your PERMANENT record, when they DO A RECORDS check on a person.
