Im at the pilot in New Braunfels Tx an was exiting the fuel island and went to back into a slot.As I was backing in I was struck by a Schineider truck..Had my flashers on and whn i started there was no one coming towards or behind me.my trailer dot bumper was aprox 1 or 2 just outside of space i wanted to get in.it was a sightside back and whn struck. I was jacknifed and could not see him.he says i backed into him.i dont think it was possible.whn he struck me he hit and bent my back drive frame.will need to be towed out and taken to freightliner for repair.i just cant understand how he hit me plenty of room to go around i made no sudden moves and had flashers on well before i backed in.im 0/0 so this will be a mjor time sink.already lost 1 load.any good advice?

It seems like it was a situation where the other driver assumed you were leaving or going somewhere else and he felt it was ok for him to pull in behind you. Sorry to hear about the troubles. Don't let the company put you over a barrel or bully you in to anything. If you know you're right then stick to your guns bro.

I'm very sorry... Truck stops are the most common places for accidents like this... Truck stops make me nervous, specially small and congested Pilots. Do you have witnesses? You will need to prove that it wasn't your fault. Otherwise the company (if you are company driver) will make that a chargeable/preventable and put it on your DAC.

Yes you're right and you need to protect yourself well in this business. Taking names and pictures of the situation is a good thing to do. Plus ask the service station about any possible video footage that could be used to help your situation.

You've prolly already sent the pic's to saftey, but if it ever happens again use 2 camera's and keep one your self.
BUT right now what you should do is write everything down! I mean everything!! Time, date , weather, direction you going. DO NOT leave anything out. If you got out and looked make sure thats in the statment and include details like. I pulled up to a parking space on the north side of the lot, stopped and looked in the space makeing it was empty and clear to back in. After setting up for a 45 back I then GOAL walking all the back to the rear of the trl.
It would also help if you draw a diagram , make copies of both and send 1 to safety and keep one FOREVER!
Remember, if it's not in black and white it never happened!

I have 4 video cameras connected to a continuously recording DVR on my truck for just such an occasion. Less than $400 at walmart.

    Watchman Thanks this.
