My CDL test came and went with minimal loss of life, limb, or orange cone. That makes me the proud owner of a shiny new Class A. Now that we all have our licenses, what are we going to do for the next week and a half until class ends?
Anyway, Maverick offered me the glass division. I wasn't too keen on going OTR as a rookie. The starting pay just wasn't enough incentive for me to stay away from home for weeks at a time, but I can't complain at all with the rates you fellas in the glass division make. I could realistically be making more money per week after 6 months at Maverick than I was making per week after 11 years in the Air Force. I don't know if that's really cool or really sad. Probably a bit of both.
Unless I can find something local that pays even remotely comparably from the get go, gets me home daily, and is willing to show me the ropes all at the same time (let me dream, lol) then I can't reasonably turn down an opportunity like this. I really can't throw out enough thanks to the folks that post in this Maverick forum. You've all been instrumental in helping me make what is probably the second hardest decision of my life by choosing to go with Maverick. I hope to chat with you all some more in the weeks to come.

Thanks jxu417 for the welcome.
Go Hawks, Congrats on earning your CDL and thank you for your service to our country (I understand what you mean about the financial opportunity in the military. They, along with all first responders, should be some of the highest paid personnel). Anyway, I hope a local driving job works out for you but if not at least you know the opportunity with Maverick is there. Like you stated going OTR is a big decision you need to make for you and the family. Like it has been stated in several threads it is not a job it is a way of life. So learn all you can, ask as many questions as possible and approach it all with a positive attitude. Good luck and keep us informed on how things progress. -
I'm at the NLR yard and pretty much got my truck put together. Just got to do a Walmart run. My truck number is 12396. Look me up. I'll buy the coffee.

Well I knew my week back off of vacation was going to be light...but this has been less than stellar.
Started off Monday from home with a pick up at Coil Plus in Springfield Ohio going to Springfield Tn
72 mt miles 332 loaded...not the start that I was looking for....I had a preplan to go to Temple Inland in cumberland city so I thought I would stop and get fuel at the number two exit in Ky. Tried to put in my info twice and it said see the cashier. So I called into Maverick and asked if my fuel was turned on. The answer was no and he told me he turned it on. So I waited a bit and tried again...no joy.
So I went inside and she tried it twice and still would not come on. So I headed and made my delivery. I did get the load to Temple Inland, and I could have made it over there and spent the night there....but I did not want to go in with half tanks of fuel especially since the wo said the load was 49,000 +. So I spent the night at the receiver and hit the Pilot in Ky on 24 and then headed into the shipper...a nice 30 mile oor.
Got there and there was noone in front of me which was a first for there. It was not that hot but about 1000% humidity. By the time I was done, I had to wring my shirt out so I could hang it up in the truck. This load was 52 mt and 601...not great , but better.
When I looked at my options, I decided that I was not going to put myself in a position where I had to go through both Chicago and Milwaukee traffic the next morning. So I ended up going up 39 into Wisconsin. I made it to a flying j with about 30 minutes left on my clock. The Load is going to Appleton Wi.
Made it to the receiver and they had a small driveway and a telephone pole right on the right hand corner. It showed signs of being hit before. I had inches when I pulled in.
Got unloaded and then had to pull up, hard alley dock into an open space and then a hard turn to be able to get out of the place...not designed for spread axle trucks to say the least.
My next load was to pick up in Hartford Wi going to SDI in Butler Indiana. 82 mt 285 loaded.....great!
I was getting super sacks of carbon. As soon as I was backed into the spot they were putting the pallots on my truck. The fastet I had ever been loaded.
My best option was to spend the night at the Gary yard and I had 3.5 hrs left on my clock....so now I have to go through Milwaukee and around Chicago.
Milwaukee was not that bad but I spent over an hour trying to get around 294. It was rush hour and they were doing construction. I made it to Gary with about 30 minutes left on my clock.
So I got fuel this morning of of the toll way on I69 and headed on in. I thought I would get right in since I had something that they wanted....wrong....they kept taking in the trucks waiting to get loaded. Finally got in and after another 1.5 hours approx...I finally got out at around 11:30.
It is now 15:45 and I am still sitting and I have 3:53 left on my clock.
Hours ago I sent in a message asking if there was any freight. The reply was I am number 4 on the board.....so frieight must be very slow in this area.
I tried to take a nap but the sound of the qualcom shutting off woke me up as that was my fear that it would shut off and I would miss the wo....wishful thinking....lol
So I thought I would update this as I was getting pretty board.
The bunk ac is doing ok with the sleeper curtain still open but I am having to sit right next to the vetnt.
My guess is that I will get a wo to pick up out of here first thing in the morning taking me through the house....but I have been wrong before......lolsewerman Thanks this. -
Go Hawks Thanks this.

Alrighty then, I've officially accepted the offer to attend Maverick orientation! There is a seat available for this weekend but I still have a few things to sort out and don't think I can be done by Saturday morning. So I'm going to shoot for the following week, which isn't a guarantee since the recruiter won't know how many he can send until Monday. Fingers are crossed that I can get into it, seems they have extra seats for people going into Glass division. Anyway, thought I'd let you all know I decided on Maverick and I am extremely excited about starting my career with them!

Congrads Bishop73 looks like we might be in the same class.
