LIMON, Colo. — Authorities say a 16-year-old boy was driving a tractor-trailer that struck and killed two Texas women who were changing a tire on Interstate 70 near Limon.
The Colorado State Patrol says a 37-year-old man who was with the teen initially claimed to have been driving.
The teen, of Sulphur, La., left before officers arrived and has been charged with two felony counts of leaving the scene of a deadly accident, as well as one misdemeanor count of careless driving causing death.
The man, also from Sulphur, faces one misdemeanor count of false reporting.
The truck struck the women at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Killed in the crash were 48-year-old Shun Jones, of Carrollton, and 38-year-old Amanda Omo-Iyamu, of Balch Springs.

The 37 year old guy should be sentenced to 20 years or more.

in my state a 16 year old can legally drive a semi without a cdl as long as they are within 100 mile radius of the farm. kinda a scary thought. don't know if that applys in the unfortunate story above but the kid may have in fact been legal to drive the truck.

Ignorance of the law. They are about to find out if you can win money in a rodeo you are engaged in commerce and a CDL is required. How did the DOT not catch them before? Surely they crossed scales.

Limon being such a small town has had their share of fatalities this past year. That's the same place the drunk truck driver drove down the wrong side of I-70 and hit an elderly couple head on earlier in the year.

Families devastated by another careless act. I hope they find closure.

Sulphur, Louisiana is much more than 100 miles from Limon, CO. He wasn't legal.

Just because "...it had one axle..."??? OK then, I should be allowed to fly a single engine plane because it only has one engine like my four-wheeler does!
:biggrin_2554: What kind of thinkin' is THAT?!:biggrin_25512:

I-70 can get real hairy with the wind, and Denver traffic. I-70 isn't farm land, he had a 16 year old boy driving on an interstate where the speed limit is 75 mph. Where this backwoods father got this great idea is something I'd like to know. At least the husband knew that wasn't a professional behind the wheel.
