Very true, I was watching here the other day a CRE truck disconnected their trailer, did everything right, but forgot the landing gear. The result was a mess. He broke the trailer and tried driving off because part of the trailer fell on the truck next to it.... o_O

I'm not sure what kind of relationship you and your DM have but as a DM/planner I can tell you one of the biggest roadblocks facing drivers is communication and interpersonal skills.you can be so quick to cursing them out and dropping F bombs. On a daily basis I deal with this and more often than not its uncalled for and just unprofessional. I just took a call today from a driver and before I could say hello he started cusiing me out over a preplan he missread. Once I was able to get a word in he found he was in the wrong. It really leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths when anybody behaves this way. Its rude and unproffesional. Now all that aside I can see why you were angry.

If I travel for mt I make sure my empty mile reflect it on the trip I'm on. I my DM doesn't put it on there I remind him. I also ask to check the trailer numbers to make sure they are at the location stated so it saves time
BTW ALL trucking companies are FOR PROFIT! Which means that they will try to save money anywhere they can including driver pay if it will help their bottom line. We get payed on whatever the boss thinks you are worth. We ask to gvet paid what we drivers feel we are worth. Like everything else in life you have to find you niche.

I'm at a loss for words with this. You'll be back here in a few months disgusted that you ever threw yourself under the bus for Knight. Your idea of how companies earn a profit is really odd. I hope someday soon you learn how a real trucking company earns money.

It sure sounds like he doesn't mind chasing trl's....he'll check to see if trl #'s are at location...let us know how well that goes for ya...I can't count how many times I was told trl# was at yard and it wasn't there or go here to get mt that there are 4 mt's & when you get there there isn't one single mt..

Guess what???...try getting $$ out of them...my first dispatcher was great but after they changed him it went downhill...incompentant people cost me $$$.

Ok. So how does a company earn a profit? Any company not just a trucking company. Keeping expenses lower than their income for what ever product they sell. Employees try to earn as much as possible. But unless you are in top management or a cunsultant in a specialized field you do not dictate to the employer your wage. If you don't like what he pays you, then you keep looking until you find someone who will pay you what you think you are worth.do you think any of the large trucking companies will pay out what a driver is really worth? Smaller companies will pay a little more to keep dependable people, but with the turnover rate at larger companies they'll pay you as little as possible to keep you from quitting.

And no I don't like chasing around to find mt trailers, but if I do I want to get paid the miles I drive.

On a differnet note, will things change overall for drivers if we got paid by the hour instead of the mile?

Frankly...if a company wants me to do work on company time...I'm getting paid!!!...I'm not a slave & will NOT work for free...I don't get a job so I can work for charity...

It's this simple...you pay or it won't get done!..just look at the millions of $$$ the co's are pocketing off of free labor.

That was funny. And a sad statement about truck driving. So what's the answer? Unions? Driver associations? Everybody complaqins but nobody offers solutions. Big companies will always "phase out" their higher paid older employees for two or three fresh new ones at lower pay and less benefits.
Its about the bottom line to them. As an employee you try to get paid as much as possible for the work you do. Unless you work in snivel(civil) service. But as employers you try to get more from your employees for less. Its the concept of any business, buy low, sell high. So since I m not rich I work. I could work anywhere and the concept is the same. I chose trucking. I chose Knight. I choose to work and gvet paid for what I do.
I also choose when I don't think its beneficial to me to continue to work here.
