biggerbear 1st try and find out if u qualify 4 a state pel grant. If so then u don't have 2 pay it back u just go 2 a school of your choice.OR if u don't qualify 4 a grant u can get financial aide.Do some research on where u can go 2 school.I have said before private CDL Training school is alot better.ALSO I have mentioned several times on different threads that IF there is no CDL school where u live OR close 2 where u live try the community college, apply 4 financial aide and u should be able 2 go 2 school and get your CDL.REMEMBER there are 2 types of CDLs.1st is the CLASS B license that 1 is mainly 4 straight trucks and buses.CLASS B you can apply for a passanger endorsement IF that is what U want 2 do.I know that some shuttle bus and limosine companies REQUIRE u to have a CDL CLASS B with PASSENGER endoresment.2nd is the CLASS A. that is the CDL that r your combination (tractor trailor) which most truck drivers have. With this license u can get HAZMAT/DOUBLESANDTRIPLES/TANKERS endorsements.the CDLs here in Nevada r $45 IF u want endorsements they are $35 per endorsement ONLY IF u want 2 take the endoresment tests later on,meaning u can take the CDL test at the DMV and come back later 2 the DMV 2 take the ENDORSEMENT tests.BUT if u choose to take ALL tests including endorsement tests THEN u only have 2 pay $35 for ALL endorsements exluding HAZMAT.To get a HAZMAT endorsement U MUST do a CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE u even apply 4 it.THE HAZMAT endorsement is $91 REGAURDLESS if u take all the other endorsement tests all at the same time.So again this is how it works (in NEVADA anyway) CDL (by itself no endorsements) $45 endorsements ($35 each or if u take the tests at the same time$35 EXCLUDING HAZMAT) HAZMAT (HAVE A CLEAN BACKGROUND and are approved $91) anyway that is how it works in Nevada hope this helps ya!! GOOD LUCK AND BE CAREFUL!!!!! DONT FORGET 2 DO YOUR RESEARCH AND HOMEWORK!!!!!:biggrin_25525:

I recently attended this school. From day 1 I was made aware of what was expected of me and I was told what the school would provide to me. Yes, they do push the students to apply, apply, apply to any and all companies. It is up to the individual to research the companies. I asked some of the instructors about different companies. They did not comment, as it should be. There job is to train, not pass judgment on trucking companies. If you do your homework on what questions to ask recruiters, many of those questions have been posted on this site, you can get a feel for the honesty of the said recruiter. I didn't just rely on what the school provided for possible employment but read and talked to many different company recruiters. It's my life and I'm not going to put it in, some one I just met, hands. It's my livelihood not theirs. The instructors there now have many years of OTR experience, they all have unique qualities and teach well. You have to listen to each one independent of the other. Do this and you can learn the basics of operating a CMV in both city and highway situations. Not one time did they tell me that they would teach me to be a solo driver as soon as I left the school, just the basics to build upon. TN Tech has a more in depth course if there schedule aligns with yours. My did not. The class room, range, and in truck instruction was not only what you need to pass the tests, written and driving, but also they worked with you 1 on 1 if needed so that you could develop your skills. As of 11-9-07 the schools requirement for completion and school tests are more demanding then what the state requires. You can pass the state but if you don't pass the schools no completion, no certificate. If you have such a problem the school will give you more time with instruction and practice.
Given my situation I am very satisfied with what I got from them. On the Friday I finished I still didn't know who I would work for, all that was asked of me is that I call and tell them who I was going to work for so that they can record that info. No pressure to work for a particular company.
You get out of it what you are willing to put into it.

This school has taken me for $1,900.00. The owner Bob Palm refuses to even speak to me. What do you do to people who take advantage of you. Pass it on...this school is taking peoples hard earned money!

Frustrating....even during Christmas....people do XXXX like this!

I don't mean to disagree with a lot you guys that I have learned to respect by reading your posts, however. I signed an agreement with a local company that paid my tuition with an agreement to work for them for six months. This company runs about half of the country, I never crossed the Mississippi river when I was with them. They ran a lot of New York including runs to Riverhead on Long Island. ( about as far east on Long Island as you can go) Pa, NJ, Md, Va, Oh, Kt, MA, De, WV, VA and including New york city. I found the experiance to be very trying in it's scope, the trucking companies load securement training was mostly with a trainer after graduation from the school. As anybody driving knows, NJ and New York city are not the preferred regions in which to drive. After drivng with four other companies and many more states, I can tell you that I was glad that I cut my teeth on these northeastern states, if you can drive in NJ, you can drive anywhere. Yes but what does this have to do with Sage? EVERYTHING drive 55cat

The school that the company selected for our training was a Sage school. I attened this school while working at whatever it was I was doing before deciding to be a driver, it took about five months of schooling. I started in October and graduated the following March. The program included, odd hours and shifts, split shifts, ONE ON ONE IN TRUCK TRAINING with a trainer. Constant testing, testing every day, more then once, then more testing, we took those tests so many times that the order of the questions no longer mattered, we as individuals got to know the answers so well that the test scores were almost always in the 90% range or higher. I cannot remember how many miles we trained in the truck, I can tell you that I have never hit anything going around a turn and I attribute this to quality teachers at this school. I considered them proffesional in every way and I am proud to be associated with Sage as Alumni. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone and unless things have deteriorated, I still recommend them as a good school, at least here. My three teachers had a combined exp. of over fifty years in trucking. drive55cat
