Four hour swaps won't allow either of you to achieve the 10 hour required break....you can't do even 5 and 5 anymore. The closest you can do, is 8 and 2...split sleeper logging, which doesn't make any sense for a 2 driver truck.
You shouldn't be showing him how to "cheat logs"....what you can say, is that "the company will use your time you fuel as a reference point for checking logs, as the time/date/location is verified by the purchase. Also, any BOL that is time stamped/date stamped will act as a reference for DOT and needs to match up with your log. Also, crossing any scale will pinpoint a time and location for the next scale. Don't give the student an opening to reflect on what you are telling him that is even on the shady side of illegal. If you teach him...and show him...running legal is the correct way, he is better off. If he wants to, or is smart enough to, figure out the system and come up with his own ways of "cheating", then it is on his shoulders...not yours!
A good system of teaching is to run his shift at 8 hours driving, and then use the remaining 2 hours (of your 10 break) as a time for reflection and discussion of the miles and roads he just drove.
Where are you

For the last few days I've been in MS, New Orleans, LA (a few times), several places in TX, went to company terminal in TX and finally returned a bad tired was carrying on the cat walk for almost 2 months...
And now I am parked at a dark truck stop in GA... it's closed for the night. Was looking for it on the road but it was so dark... I couldn't see it and almost passed it... It has a big dirt parking lot. There are maybe 3 other trucks here. Maybe I park here again on Tuesday, on my way to AL. There are no other truck stops on this road for miles and miles....

Can't quote, driod is being a bleep.
Yes Otter, I know. Good thing, Boyd is dropping those shippers/recivers from drivers complaining. Took them 7 years to finally do what they said about dropping them...
Trainee just lerned how to hold a 20k coil to the deck, 2 20k's and a skid. Pushing legal weights...
While we were waiting on the load I showed him how to do a pretrip, what to look for, change a gladhand seal(Truck DID have bad seals, glad I checked.) Dropped the trailer, showed him how to do it. Had him move the truck around the reciver and come back, while he was coming up the back I took the seals off the trailer, lowered it and unplugged a blinker. He came back, got lined up.
More later, poor signel. -
